Re: 1930 cam profiles.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the A6/664 cam also a sidevalve cam? I seem to recall his from when I was trying to figure out which cam to put in my 38VH. It certainly made it go better anyway.

Re: Sidevalve Valve Collets

It wasn't so much the collets as getting the spring to compress straight so I can get both collets in. Sorted it eventually tho. Should be ready for Ireland.

Re: Sidevalve Valve Collets

To answer my own question - after struggling with a number of different valve spring compressors then talking to Dave Owen and borrowing his modified compressor (I have modified my own now too) I have managed to fit the collets with the aid of a large socket over the valve head (difficulty compounde...

Sidevalve Valve Collets

Is there a knack to getting the valve collets back into a sidevalve? Been trying to reassemble the valves on my 1930 Model B and its fighting me all the way. Any hints or tips? Or special tools?

Re: War helmet

I think a pudding basin with a BSI mark is still legal in the UK. I stopped wearing mine after I fell off and landed on my head. Surprisingly the helmet did its job well, but the dent in it and the blood all over it from a cut to my forehead put me off using it again.

Re: Lathe user?

I use EN16T for spindles (fork, wheel etc). Threads should be BSCy not WW. I think Ariel used 1/2" 20TPI as opposed to the standard 26TPI for half inch, but guess that doesn't really matter so much.

That's a lot more than a few years ago...and a young looking Kempy on the other bike.
