Wanted: Rear stand brackets (1958 Square Four)

Dear fellow enthusiasts, My friend Gary has acquired a 1958 Square (photo below). This has frame no. CNML 1737 and engine no. CGM 1681. The bike sat in a living room display for almost 40 years. It needs rear stand brackets (right and left side). The part numbers appear to be 5503-40 and 5504-40. Pl...

Smiths and Jaeger speedos

Dear fellow enthusiasts, Did wartime Ariels have Jaeger speedos? I recently went to check a 1942 NG Ariel and 1938 Triumph Tiger 90 which were for sale locally. Both bikes had Jaeger speedos. The seller said these were correct for the period. Is that correct? I am also curious what was the relations...

Thanks Dave and Paul,

It is quite interesting that this bike was supplied initially in Japan. It is now in USA for your records.

Frame number for 1958 Square Four

Dear fellow enthusiasts,

I am trying to buy this supposedly 1958 square four. The frame number appears to be CGM 1614. The CGM prefix is correct for year 1958. Just checking here for a confirmation.

Re: 1937 Square Four starting problems

Hi Paul,
I did dismantle the whole carb. I am also curious about choice of spark plugs and correct gap. What is the ideal plug type and plug gap for iron barrel engine? Currenly I have B5HS.

The engine was completely rebuilt 3 years ago with new cylinder liners, pistons, con rods etc. The bike has not run a whole...
