Re: GEARBOX JUMPING in 2nd Gear ONLY

I’m wondering if it’s a mechanical feeling to the jerking, like it’s slipping out of gear by a tooth or two before re engaging or it’s more of an engine misfire? If mechanical, is there any mileage in trying to recreate the load to the back wheel in second gear by applying the brake and running the ...

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hello John and thank you for your reply. I did send a message last night it it must have got lost somewhere so here goes again! I assume you have made a blanking plate to fit in place of the barrels to do the vacuum test? If that is the case, the two halves of the crankcase are still connected toget...

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hi John I don’t think that I can offer anything more to the suggestions already made but I was interested in your Myvac. I have been looking at the idea of pressure/vacuum testing of the crankcase for some time and using a similar tester but stumped on how to test each side independently when the tw...

Re: A question on ignition timing methods

Any ideas as to how an engine can run backwards if the spark is occurring at 20 degrees before TDC?
Does this only happen when retro fitted electronic ignition is used or can it happen with both?
I have only ever used points ignition on mine and never had it happen

Re: A question on ignition timing methods

When I was a teenager and before we had timing discs or any idea what the timing should be, the norm was to advance the distributor to best engine speed and then retard a little. I would hope that, for a standard engine and using timing equipment, the manufactures settings could not be bettered but ...

Re: 1962 Golden Arrow, remove primary chain case

How are you getting on with it Bernie? With the storms gone I have ventured into the workshop this morning. The 1/4 drive socket needed to adjust the chain is actually a 5.5mm. I know it’s a bit odd using a hex socket to engage onto a flat tang but it works so much better than that nylon plug. Their...

Re: 1962 Golden Arrow, remove primary chain case

You don’t need to get the mole grips IN the hole.
Use a long enough self tapper so that it extends to outside the chaincase.

Re: 1962 Golden Arrow, remove primary chain case

Is the metal drive tang of the adjuster exposed? I use a 1/4 socket on the tang to make adjustments, I think it’s a 4.5mm socket that fits. I can check if it will help? Otherwise you could drill into the remainder of the plug and screw a self tapper in, using mole grips to pull it out and then slack...

Re: Arrow Engine gaskets

Hi Jess

I was interested to hear of your experience and have a question. Is there a disadvantage to simply applying a modern silicon gasket sealant on this joint face and not bother with a paper gasket?

Re: My latest project

That chaincase looks pretty good and just like the real thing, I’d like to have a bash myself.
Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Ivor
