Re: Monobloc for a 1955 VB

Hello Klaus, I hope you can read my writing, measurements are in millimetres. Note the slot cut in the intake stub on the LHS on the carb side. This makes fitting the carb easier as it is quite tight. Also I mounted that bolt on the carb first and then slid the carb onto the intake stub using the sl...

Re: Monobloc for a 1955 VB

I have a '55 VB with the original spacer between carb and barrel. Would you like me to photograph it and send you measurements?

Re: Help in Zimbabwe identify vb600

Hello Axl, I have a '55VB and am in Cape Town, it is a swing arm bike. You should be able to determine from the rear brake bits and engine plates what type of frame the bike needs. I don't know about Zim but there are not that many Ariels about in SA, so it might be difficult to acquire a frame loca...

Re: VB starting

I have a '55 VB with 1" mono block, No. 5 slide, 30 plot jet, 220 main jet and needle position 3. I use 95 octane unleaded with no ethanol. You must ensure that the timing and the float height is correct. I start from cold with a tickle and no choke but use the choke until the bike is hot as it...

Re: New to Ariels - 1956 VB 600 rebuild

Hi Bruce, I am from Cape Town and recently recommissioned a '55 VB. For spares Draganfly have pretty much everything and lots of info. I am not a member of AOMCC but I am a member of the Cape Town Triumph Owners Club who welcome all British marques. There are not too many Ariels in the Cape though t...

Re: Primary gearing for 1957 VH

My '55 VB was fitted with a 22T engine sprocket, I found the gearing to be too short. I have fitted a 23T sprocket and this is much better, so with the power of a VH I think 23T would be the way to go.

My bike

bikeR.jpg bikeL.jpg Hello All, pictures of my bike now that it is running well, a '55 VB. It had not run since the early '80's so I had quite a bit of work to do, pretty much everything except the bottom end and g/box. I did not respray the bike, just cleaned everything up. Fortunately nothing was ...

Re: Wheel Rims

Thank you, your replies cement my opinion that the front rim was re-chromed at some stage and that the rear rim was not.

Wheel Rims

'55 VB: Good Day to All. The rear wheel rim of my bike has PALMER WM2 - 19 stamped onto it and the spokes and nipples look galvanised or nickel plated. The front wheel rim (which is in much better condition) has no manufactures marks on it and the spokes and nipples are chrome plated. What was the o...

Re: Oil in magneto

David, thanks for the explanation I have a better understanding now. I have fitted the oil flinger gasket on the magneto shaft. Unless I fit a PCV valve there is not much more that I can do. Does the oil level in the oil tank have any effect on this problem? I tend to keep the oil level quite high.
