VH cylinder base gasket

Finally got to the point where I have the crankshaft and new Hepolite 11497 low compression (6:1) +40 piston installed on the '39 VH. The gasket set was from single spares (its a 216 ARI I think from Wasell and is listed as 'can use all single models') and the base gasket was a thin paper one. I hav...

BA gearbox inner case woes

I needed to fit a new gearbox camshaft bearing outer bush (3238-31) to my BA inner case. Sourced one from club spares and like an idiot did not support the case on the bearing housing but on the edge of the case itself. Heated the case up in the oven to a spit sizzling temperature and froze the bush...

Re: 1931 VB magneto

This is normal with a magneto. As Simon says, what you are seeing is the effect of the low resistance of the primary coil. The points are wired in parallel with the condenser and the primary coil. When the points open any electrical current you are using to test for continuity (battery and bulb) wil...

Re: Rear wheel sprockets

just to update.....as Nev and Robert have conformed the holes in the original sprockets are 1/4" give or take a few thou. The original bolts are 1/4" and are supposed to be a good fit in the sprocket. The replacement sprockets that have 0.280 (9/32) holes will, in my opinion, eventually ca...

Re: Anstey Shimmy

Simon,
A couple of ideas that may help track down where the play is:

If your local bike MOT testing station has a rolling brake tester maybe you could try it on that and you should be able to see where the play is.

Mount a Go-Pro / SJcam type camera and record the area around the suspension / drum.

Rear wheel sprockets

Gents, I have another question regarding the 4345-32 rear 47T wheel sprockets. I have a new one from John Budgen (same source as those sold by Peter Kemp at single spares). I have also got 10 new sprocket bolts from Acme Stainless. My problem / question is that the 0.250" (1/4") bolts from...

Re: Can ignition timing jump out of sync VH

Chris, Re setting the points gap the fixed point (i.e the one that is not the one on the spring steel arm) has two small nuts. The lower one is a locknut, the top one, when turned, moves the fixed point up or down. Rotate the backplate until the points gap is at its widest point. Measure with a 12 t...
