Re: 4G Engine Shock Absorber Spring Plate.

John, I have had a look at the crankshaft shock absorbers on a 1929 'Colt', a 1935 'Cammy', a 1952 VB and a 1956 'Square Four'. On none of them could I find any evidence that the spring plate was designed to rotate. It is just a case of doing the nuts up tight and using the locking device provided wh...

Re: Square Four Distributor cap clips

Graham, quite a few of us are rather intrigued why you are having so much trouble with these clips. I have two distributors and it is much more of a problem getting the inside clip off than the easy process of putting them both back on. Could you manage a photograph which may give us all a better id...

Re: New member

Hello Fritz, Foot brake pedal. The one you have been directed to on e.bay is no use at all on a 1936 OHC square four. It is a totally different design. Oil filter body. Very rare, they tend to get broken off. The club has some recently cast bodies but you have to machine them yourself. If you do not...

Re: Sump plate screws.

I do not use a gasket with sump plates, only silicone sealant and find that the sealant round the screws is adequate to stop them vibrating loose. Also no distortion of sump plate which can occur when bolting it down on a compressible gasket.

Re: Wanted kick-start shaft and outer case 55 ariel colt

Tommy,

I have a complete 1954 Burman 'Colt' gearbox that I have no use for. Internal condition unknown but kickstart shaft appears OK from the outside. PM me if you are interested.

Re: Primary chain rubbing on throttle down - MK1

Cam, I see that nobody has mentioned the spacer behind the rear half of the primary chain case where it bolts to the frame at the bottom. I assume at the moment you do have a spacer? You, and others, may cringe at this but square four primary cases are surprisingly flexible so you could try an extra...

Re: mk1 square four oil tank vent

That is not a clip. It should be standing vertically above the chain guard and is there to stop the tyre pump from falling into the wheel should it become detached from its mountings. A previous owner has bent it down through 180 degrees.

Cheers, Roland
