Re: Tight wad arrow

Hi Bob,
I have always been reluctant to flood the engine to much as it quite quickly wets the plugs and then it won’t start without cleaning them. But as I’m experimenting with the best way to get the bike started, there is no good reason not to try your method.
Cheers,
John

Re: Tight wad arrow

Hi Bob, This is a topic that interests me. With my bike I can get it to start consistently but it usually takes about 40 kicks. I am now going through various starting techniques. I have tried to see what is the best number of tickles, and does it start better with the air open or closed. Still no d...

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hi Brian, Good thoughts Brian. I’m sure I read on this site some time ago that some members had trouble with points shorting out on the cover. I leave the cover off when in the garage and for road use I have made a wooden spacer that fits under the metal cover. It just keeps the cover away from the ...

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hi Ivor, Yes I have blanking plates to check the bottom end. I have not come up with a way to separate the two halves yet.All the tests do is to let me know that the bottom half is pressure tight. I did notice with the latest strip down that there is an oilway between the two halves. I can’t see the...

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hi Brian, Thanks for all the info. I did have problems with starting the bike, but lately it has been better. My new problem is it breaking down. Which I haven’t solved yet. I will look into your idea with the improved points as I sometimes get to the point where I run out of things to try. I also l...

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hi Ivor, I have spent quite a lot of time mulling over this point without success. I believe that it is quite easy to pinch the lip of the seals when joining the cranks together or distorting them when levering the shaft to get the 0.002” shaft run out and would not know until the bike is put togeth...

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hi Brian, I’M not sure if your response is to Melvyn or me as our problems seem to be similar. In my case I have had the bike on the road. My problem is I have to push it home. I have used the higher grade of fuel but I don’t know what Aspen fuel is. I use a Myvac to check the sump, which holds its ...

Re: Leader colours and piston ring gaps

Hi Antony.
The piston ring gap is quoted as 0.070" to 0.073" on page 43 of the hand book (if you have a copy) It also says that the rings are pre gapped.

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hello Roger, At the moment everything is worth looking into. The air way in the Petrol cap has the ball bearing in tact. What I decided to do was to drill a small horizontal hole connecting with the existing vertical hole. The idea was that should the seat come down on the Petrol cap air could still...

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hello Brian, Thank you once again for the information. Due to my inexperience I am never quite sure when things have deviated from the norm. I have taken pressure readings quite regularly, and each time they are different. The reading after the reborn was 130 psi in each cylinder. So when it dropped...
