Re: Daily Fixing and Riding Diary on an Ariel 2019

Steve, It must be bizarre swapping from a Yamaha to an Ariel and then to a combination and then to a.............. Still, if a wire broke or something with the Yamaha I guess it might not be so simple as a road side fix!! Safe riding. Keith PS. Got in over 100 miles on the VH over Easter........shee...

Re: Primary Chain Lubrication

Tape ordered! I did refill with oil, although it is said that plug is a bit high up the case and lets too much oil to be put in. This morning, there was a weep at the point around the fixing with the damaged thread. So, hopefully, the tape should fix it as a stop-gap. Long term, I guess it will need...

Re: Primary Chain Lubrication

Hi, It had never occurred to me that the needle rollers got their lubrication this way. I had always assumed that the grease used to hold them in place when assembling was sufficient, since they are actually only rotate when de-clutched, when in drive everything is fixed and rotates on the drive sha...

Primary Chain Lubrication

Hi, My primary chain case is leaking - one of the bottom threads is damaged. I was wondering, as an interim measure would it be alright to spray some of the squirty chain lube that I use on the rear chain onto the primary, or would that be a bad idea? I really would prefer to wait until winter befor...

Re: Daily Fixing and Riding Diary on an Ariel 2019

Hi Steve,
Glad all went well and that the sidecar didn't have it's evil way (It's surprising the difference having a passenger makes) !

Re: 1949 NH

Hmm..............

Much as I love Ariels, this is wishful thinking in both cases, I think.

I'm not going to get rich quickly.

But then even if I did sell up, what would I ride then?

Re: Failed !

Lovely looking bike!

It has obviously been worth the effort and it would be a shame to rush the last details just for the sake of a 'goal'. With an engine rebuild I like to build up to distances in comfortable steps!!

Keep up the good work!

Re: Daily Fixing and Riding Diary on an Ariel 2019

Hi Steve,

When I recall my first attempts with a sidecar it makes me thankful to have survived, but, once I got the hang of it, it was great fun!!!

Hope you'll post some pics!

Keith :D

p.s. Congratulations to the bride (and proud parents)!

Engine Breathing Singles - return to oil tank

Hi, I fitted a Yamaha reed valve to my VH (crank case breather) and it has been quite successful in as much the engine is now pretty oil tight. It does however eject some oil from here all the same and I was wondering if anyone had experimented with returning the crank case breather back to the oil ...
