Re: Man and sloper come a cropper.

Hi Chris, After reading the first posts on the subject I had that sinking feeling...............it is always in the back of one's mind that things can go wrong. Thanks for letting us all know what happened and most importantly that you are on the mend. As per Bob, I hope you make a full recovery and...

Re: Thorspark Electronic Ignition on a VH

Hi Bob, I originally had an Armours silencer; bought in 1978. It was not correct. Towards the end there was a baffle, basically a plate welded across the body with holes drilled in it. It was too restrictive and things improved when I punched a big hole in it, but at the same time the bike made so m...

Re: Thorspark Electronic Ignition on a VH

Hi Bob, Are you sure that the problem isn't with the float chamber level? If the level is too low the whole carb will run lean; if too high, it will run rich. The main jet will have no affect at throttle openings below 3/4 - in fact on low throttle openings below 3/4 you could run without one fitted...

Re: Exhaust blow back

I had it done by Owlesbury in Winchester, 01962 855 969. I think it was 67% (or what ever Nev Hunter suggested) and yes, it has smoothed out a lot of the vibration.

Re: Exhaust blow back

Hi David, Good to hear from you. I trust all is well. I shall give these things a try - somehow I don't think this weekend though, we're having some very wet weather! The bike seems to be running pretty well, but, not having ridden another it is hard to really know how well it compares. It does howe...

Exhaust blow back

Hi, My VH is running pretty well since I did a rebuild. The crankshaft has been balanced with an Omega 7.5:1 piston and HS cam fitted with normal followers. It seems to burst into life in top gear from about 45 mph. I recently fitted a new exhaust and silencer from Feked. The silencer is a true copy...

Re: 57 on singles , return pump check valve in timing cover.

Hi Nev,
What would you recommend for exhaust valve springs on an iron head VH?
Also, any thoughts about an iron head NH?

John,
I have had no problems resulting from the mod; well at least so far!

Re: 57 on singles , return pump check valve in timing cover.

Hi John, If you are in the mood for it, I think the cam oil level mod is also worth doing. I have done it on my VH and coupled with the direct feed to the rockers, the cam gets a good oiling. I understand that it has long been considered a shortfall of the engine in that the cam and followers wear p...

Re: 57 on singles , return pump check valve in timing cover.

There was a service note for this (attached).

I have carried out the mod on my 1950VH - it is simple to do but it involves removing the outer casting and using a pillar drill.
