Re: Square Four MkI - first rides after restoration

Hello Gui, thats a very nice Mk1. Congratulations. When I looked at the photos of your outing, it seems that the 2 front mudguard stays are too long compared with the red Mk1. Too long stays result in an uptilting mudguard. There are 2 different lenghs, the one for the valanced guard and the other ...

Re: Square Four MkI - first rides after restoration

If there's still any lack of higher speed smoothness or power it might be worth making sure the fuel can get through properly - they tend to like a full tank - and the breather must work of course. I guess you'll have checked engine mountings are tight too? Eggs, grandmothers etc. That’s all sorted...

Re: SpAriel MkII aka The Hermanator

Vincent, that looks like the clamp for the exhaust header that holds it to a lug on the frame. There should be two - left and right and they are on the bottom frame tubes towards the front. The two bolts look like the ones for the rear mudguard. The one for the left side is where the rear stand spri...

Re: Sq4 MKI timing case breather

Bob and Simes, Thanks. That sounds about right. I used an 8mm pipe to fit inside the banjo bolt inside the timing case when I did the mod to get the breather opening towards the area of the cam sprocket. 8mm is about 0.32” which matches the pipe bob measured. So I should get a banjo union for a 1/4”...

Re: Sq4 MKI timing case breather

It’s definitely larger than 1/4”. I don’t think I can get a caliper in there, though. I believe it’s 3/8” but I wanted to be sure before trying to disassemble it.

Re: Sq4 MKI timing case breather

The banjo bolt I have. It’s the fitting and pipe I need replacing, and that they don’t have. But should be a standard fitting, thar’s why I wanted to know the exact dimension.

Sq4 MKI timing case breather

Hello everyone,

Does anybody know the size of the banjo bolt used at the back of the timing case as a breather? is it a 3/8"?
I need to find a new banjo fitting for it.

Thanks in advance,
Gui

Re: Square Four MkI - first rides after restoration

Well, to wrap up this thread I can now say the restoration is complete. Sorted out a few things, got the speedo working properly again, swapped the oil lines to the rockers and pressure gauge, did the first oil change and readjusted the valves after the first 100kms, and today drove to a classic bik...

Re: New VB piston

John, to be honest I have no idea where the piston came from. It does match the original in that it only has two compression rings and no oil ring. The pin is 19mm so a bit smaller than the 55/64” you mentioned. The bore was originally 80mm.
