Re: New member, '52 VH500

Peter, I haven't had any email from you. I deal with all email extremely promptly but occasionally have to go away with work or holidays. The email address is: registrar@arielownersmcc.co.uk and the phone number is in the club magazine. I would have preferred if you hadn't chosen to voice your dissa...

Re: 1930 Model G rear mudguard

Thanks Adrie, I will go down in the cellar later and study what I have together with your pictures. Main difference I can see at the moment is that you have a rear rack which isn't present on mine.

1930 Model G rear mudguard

Hi All, Fitting up the rear mudguard on my project 1930 G. The guard and rear grab/stay are new but the upright stay is original. Doesn't really seem to gel! Any G experts on here? I have been told that J.Coleman is very experienced with them and present on the forum. Tried to PM him but couldn't fi...

Re: 1930 Model G: Gearbox main-shaft repair

One of the other suggestions I have had is to not bother with the woodruff key at all since, as you say, the drive should be through a properly fitting taper anyway.

Interesting info about measuring the taper using a ball bearing, that will come in useful

Re: 1930 Model G: Gearbox main-shaft repair

Ok thanks for the additional advice. I've read through the thread you linked to and there is a lot to think about. Perhaps when I get a price for HCP and grinding the taper I might be investing in my own gear too!

Re: 1930 Model G: Gearbox main-shaft repair

Good idea for re-forming the thread. I understand the idea is to remove minimum amount of metal. As regard the taper in the clutch basket. That is still in good condition the mainshaft acutally fitted to the bike has a good taper and keyway but the thread has been cut to a smaller size which I feel ...

Re: 1930 Model G: Gearbox main-shaft repair

I think I'd be very lucky to find someone to roll the threads but I'll do a bit of research. First job will be to get hold of the correct nut now I know the thread size (thanks Paul) and see if I can get a satisfactory fit with a bit of careful thread filing and trying of the nut. What's the opinion...

1930 Model G: Gearbox main-shaft repair

Dear All, The gearbox mainshaft is un-usable so I have got hold of this one from gearbox spares. The thread looks salvageable if I can identify the size correctly. Taper and wood-ruff key will need repairing. Plan is as follows and I wanted to get opinions from others who have been here before as to...

Re: 1930 Model G - Restoration

Thanks Klaus, yes I heard about that guy via the facebook group. Not the easiest to use website but he has a lot of the bits I need.

Going to try and get a comprehensive list before I place an order.

Cheers

Bennet
