Re: So it begins

Hi Johnny, Thanks for your reply. I have considered all of those options and am in the process of making a new gasket just in case the new one I fitted for some reason is not doing it's job properly. I know I have put all the crank plugs in, as I went over them about 4 times to make sure before asse...

Re: So it begins

Hello again all. Thought it was time for a very quick update on how my rebuild is going. I have the engine back together and in the frame. Finally sorted the valve timing and happy with it. Yesterday was the first opportunity that I have had to start her up for the first time. I surprised myself whe...

Thanks for your input guys. I have been talking to one of our ariel members here in Brisbane, which has been of great assistance. I think I have my head around it, just needed confirmation.

VALVE TIMING

Hello all, About to go through the process of setting the valve timing on my 1951 Mk1 Sq 4. I have read Wallers version and Bruce Longmans version of how to set the valve timing and find both of them somewhat confusing and my eyes glaze over. I know to some I must appear to be a moron, however I fin...

Re: So the resurrection begins

Hello again all, Another small update. I have spoken to the machine shop that I took the engine parts to and there is some good news and some bad news. Good news is that the crank is perfect and so are the bores. I think I may have already mentioned this if so, sorry for repeating it. However one of...

Re: So it begins

Hey Gui, Yes after after rereading Johns post that is what I think he was alluding to as well. Upon reflection when I re-examined the photos of the bearing area , I can see no damage in that area so am hoping as you have said that whoever did the pinning just put the glue there as an extra layer of ...

Re: So it begins

Thanks for your info John, will pass that on I am sure the bloke who is doing the job will / should know this. Just to confirm though, are you saying that the white metal bearing is not really necessary and that a plain bronze bush would suffice?

Re: So the Resurrection begins

Sorry for the delay in any updates lately but not a lot has been happening at the moment apart from a lot of hurry up and wait. I have just been cleaning parts up while I wait for a report from my machine shop where I took the cranks, barrel , pistons etc. Heard back from my machine shop this mornin...
