I put the D shaped ribbed one on mine because I like it but it was apparently only on the first 54-55 model with fluted tank and then onwards they where fitted with the BSA valanced guard so I get told quite a lot, it is my bike and it is how I had one in 67.[img] B2188CFE-A807-4AF0-9B6F-220E3B9B676...

My thoughts are still with gearbox moving forward as you mention travel down hill was this using the rear brake causing the back drag, please check for tightness of the drive chain as this may confirm that the box traveled forward. It looks like the primary chain is sitting on the bottom of the case so if the chain is that slack it’s walked over the crank sprocket and rammed the front of the case out. Has the gearbox moved forward on its mounts and the drive chain gone tight ? Bob.
