Re: S4 Generator

Thanks for the assistance, My Ural was sitting alongside the bench and it seems the 500W Denso alternator fitted to that bike could be adapted to suit the S4. I will let you know how it works out.

S4 Generator

Hello all, hopefully you are keeping safe and healthy. I am using my "self isolation time" to rebuild my 57 Sq4. I want to convert to 12V electrics so that I can add in accessories such as turn signals and loud horns. Hand signals are unheard of in this part of Canada so I want to try to k...

Re: Rods and generator

Thanks for the insight. To be honest after reading the forum there appears to be potential issues with new rods in terms of actual fitting, some claim the new rods are tight and have to be reamed or honed to fit. There is also some discrepancy in the actual sizing, albeit very fine tolerances, not t...

Re: Rods and generator

Thank you Paul, do you mind passing on details of where you ordered the rods? I checked with the usual suppliers and was told it would be "the end of the year" before any would be available. Thanks also for the info on the L/E size. This is my first Ariel rebuild so I haven't got the insid...

Rods and generator

Learned gentlemen, I am just about ready to assemble the engine for my '57 S4. I plan to recondition the existing con rods ( as the AOMCC rods are currently unavailable for the foreseeable future, unless someone has a set they don't need?) Is the original size of the large end in the rod exactly 1.5...

Re: lubrication

Many thanks for the very helpful replies, as for sliding on an oil slick I live in Canada, driving 5 months of the year on snow and ice, so I should be ok with that, I do ride year round but on a Ural and sidecar in the winter. One more question for you learned gentlemen, on the NH I am connecting t...

lubrication

Hello all from a cold white Canada, I am currently completing the restoration of a 1939 NH and a 1951 KH as part of an estate of a friend recently passed away. I have worked on Brit iron for over 40 years, but limited experience with Ariels, so any assistance appreciated. * Gearbox oil, the manual s...

Re: 1948 KH

Many thanks for the very helpful replies. After reading Paul Jameson's response I looked at another bike in the collection that I am working on, this was a 1938 single NH, which was fully assembled, but the inner case had the step. I dismantled the single and lo and behold, it fitted the Twin perfec...
