Re: Black Ariel & sidecar?

I had a sidecar thrown in when I bought my ‘26 Sunbeam longstroke , I fitted it for a while a few years ago. I wasn’t keen on the side loads it put on the bike, if I were to do it again, I’d put stiffer spokes in and maybe fatter rims. It was an adventure to ride but obviously puts a lot more stress...

Re: Oil pressure regulator thread size

Hi Nev, the narrower bottom part came out as I drilled it, I had the cover on the bench not in situ, so blew it out with air after. I had another oil reg assy so that went in. I got what you were saying re the easy outs so only used them to apply pressure after heating and cooling. I couldn’t think ...

Re: Oil pressure regulator thread size

Ended up drilling the old one, tried lots of heat cycles but it wouldn’t budge; I suspect I may never have been undone before. I pressured it using Easy-outs but it never moved despite a lot of torque. Drilled it til it was thin then picked at it with a scriber. A few wraps of ptfe tape on the threa...

Re: Oil pressure regulator thread size

Re: Oil pressure regulator thread size

I gingerly tried an easi out, but I’m terrified of it snapping in situ. I shall probably take it off and warm it a little in the oven

Re: Oil pressure regulator thread size

Hi mick, thanks, you’re correct. I must’ve looked at .345 not .435 ! I’m sure I have a 26 tpi 7/16 tap too , if required. Well spotted

Re: Oil pressure regulator thread size

The oil pump had fine lockwire neatly looped over it and across the slots on the plugs underneath. Is that an Ariel thing or a cautious previous owner ?

Re: Oil pressure regulator thread size

Thanks Nev, I get your drift. I know I can’t afford to touch the old thread but thought I’d better have a tap ready in case I do.
