Re: Square Four Distributor cap clips

Thanks, Paul. I tried that without success. I even removed the distributor and put it in the vise to give better access. Still no good. I tried squeezing the clips into place with cable ties wrapped around the distributor body. Nothing worked. I'd fitted new springs (from Draganfly) because I found ...

Square Four Distributor cap clips

Does anyone have any tips about securing the distributor cap with the spring clips? I'm finding it almost impossible to locate the outboard clip in the recess in the distributor cap and absolutely impossible to locate the inboard clip. Is there a knack to this? I remember as a child when my dad park...

Re: Removing Square Four Mk2 Cylinder Head

Thanks, Harry. Lifting the head was not the issue (although I do appreciate your advice on this). The problem I had was juggling the head out from under the frame tube. I think Dave's solution of removing two rocker studs is the best solution for me.

Removing Square Four Mk2 Cylinder Head

Does anybody have any tips about the easiest way to remove a Square Four cylinder head with the engine still in the frame? I remember doing this with my dad many years ago, and it was nightmare trying to juggle the studs in the cylinder head past the forest of studs poking up from the block. I suppo...

Re: Squre Four Engine Breather

Thanks, that was useful. I still can't really understand why the crankcase breathing into the timing chest is via the two small oil drain holes under the main bearing, rather than a larger hole higher up, with a baffle if necessary to prevent oil being thrown from the crankcase into the timing chest...

Re: My Sq 4 hates me!

Same thing happened to me except that there was some friction between the distributor shaft and the drive gear so the rotor arm continued to rotate when I turned the engine over. I couldn't understand what had happened and reset the timing several times before I discovered the sheared pin.

Squre Four Engine Breather

I am struggling to understand the logic behind the engine breather arrangement on my Mk2 Square Four. On a single cylinder engine, or a 360 degree parallel twin where the pistons go up and down together, I can see how the crankcase pressure will increase on the downward stroke of the piston(s) and h...

Re: Torque

Thanks to all those who sent in useful advice. I knew there were some clever people out there! Thanks especially to Johnny - I'll research those adapters, and to Mick. That attachment confirmed my original thinking and gave me confidence to proceed. Brilliant!

Re: Torque

Thanks, Johnny. I didn't know about those adaptors. Do you know where I can get them?
