Re: Leaky GB gearbox

So it turns out that the new seals I bought are too slack and allow the oil to escape.

Re: Leaky GB gearbox

It is the correct seal, as it is a rubber collar with a chamfered edge, not an O ring, and it fits exactly in to a recess in the metal holder that is pressed in to the outer case.
It doesn’t catch when sliding the gear shaft through it.
So I’m still stumped on this.

Leaky GB gearbox

I’m slowly fixing the small issues on my bike, but can’t seem to resolve a small oil leak from the gear lever shaft on my GB7 gearbox. The bush and seal have been replaced, and the shaft is smooth, clean and doesn’t wobble, but it still dribbles after a few minutes on the road. It doesn’t leak when ...

Re: square four distributor cover

@Ken, that’s a nice product and as a bonus includes a cover for the ignition coil.

Re: square four distributor cover

I wonder why there is such a price differential between the sock for the Square four and the one for the Triumph 5TA. The latter can be bought online for £12. I assume it’s all to do with the scale of production.

Re: square four distributor cover

Johnny, I don’t think a Triumph 1300 had a distributor boot fitted as standard did it?

Re: square four distributor cover

The ones for Morris, Austin and Triumph cars all seem to be the wrong shape (side exiting leads, too narrow, etc).

Re: SQ4 Mk1 Otto gasket instructions

Yes, I use the figures in the table at every torque down. Note that when torquing down, I first slacken the nut by a quarter turn to release any ‘tension’ then tighten it to the torque value.
For what it is worth, all my head studs and nuts are 303 stainless, with the higher torque figures.

Re: SQ4 Mk1 Otto gasket instructions

Those figures are correct, as my Mk1 is running all right with them. A few weeks ago I did the third and final torque down. I’ve also done compression tests on the cylinders in both hot and cold states, which came out all right.

Re: SQ4 Mk1 Otto gasket instructions

Hello Xavier, I had the same problem getting that page last year! I’ve sent it to you as an attachment to a PM (look in your inbox in this forum).
