Re: 1939 Sq Four 599cc Engine Oil

Well done on buying such a nice bike - it’s always good to post a picture or two on this forum so we can all enjoy looking at it. The question of “which oil for my bike” always generates lots of discussion on online groups for old Brit bikes. I believe your bike has white metal in the big ends and m...

Re: For Sale - SQ4 MK11 1958

Very nice bike. It looks like the clutch cable is resting on the exhaust manifold.

Post disappeared

There was a post on here earlier today from someone wanting a square 4 mark 1 downpipe in used condition. I just went to the workshop to take a pic of the one I have that I was going to offer, and the post has gone. I guess he’s now sorted.

Re: Ariel HT5

Your bike is in good hands with Mr. Miller. About 10 years ago I went round his museum with my brother who is also a biker. It was closing time and we were about to leave when Sammy wandered past and asked us if we had enjoyed our visit. We chatted away with him and ended up leaving about an hour pa...

Re: Square Four top-end interchangeability.

The Mark 1 has 20 studs holding the head on, the Mark 2 has 18, although the position of many of the studs is the same.
The Mark 2 has two oil connections, one more than the Mark 1.
And as you pointed out, the exhaust pipes (and silencers) are different.

If you want cheap, then use British Racing Green which is pretty damn close.

Re: Ariel colt paint colour

You can buy Brunswick Green online from RS paints. Weblink here: https://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php?setlocale=true#makeid=8&modelid=261&prodyear=1954&colourscheme=526 I’m not associated with them in any way, and have not used them myself, but it’s nice that they actually list ...

Re: SQ4 Mk1 rear wheel

The burgundy brake plate looks the same as the one on my mark 2, the other plate is missing the rivet holes for the dust ring.
There is a spacer in the hub between the two bearings part number 4471-50.

Re: Trying to decide between two frames

The ‘best’ frame should be used, whether for a daily runaround or a concourse show bike. My personal choice would be the smooth frame and weld new tank lugs on. The effort in making the pitted frame good (removing the powder coat, filling the pits etc) would appear to be excessive given the other op...

Here is a picture from my test fit build. Yes, your bolts are too short.
