Re: Solex spares

Thank you Paul, that helps a lot. The only thing I had already was the info from the club archive. I also found a french website with pictures of a Solex strip down and rebuild. I have six type 26 Solex carbs but only one is 26AHD, I’m hopeful that there will be enough common parts to rebuild it. Al...

Solex spares

Now that David Jones, the Solex man, has retired who is the “go to guy” for Solex spares and advice?

Re: 4G Carb / Dynamo Clearance

Not only gaskets Simon, an “enthusiastic” skim would make a difference too.

Re: 4G Carb / Dynamo Clearance

If you hold the carb up when you tighten the nuts, will that leave a step in the inlet tract between the carb and the head?

This is very relevant to my current Square 4 rebuild, as this weekend I will be putting the Solex carb on.

Re: SU carb brass float repair

Here is a pic of the stay up float I took out earlier this year. The skin had split and petrol got into the porous inner material. You can see the petrol seeping out.

Re: SU carb brass float repair

I get through one float a year for the SU carb on my Square 4, and now find the symptoms easy to spot as it slowly loses its buoyancy. This happens with new ones, second hand ones, and even happened with a “stay up” one. The float bowl is clean and has no sharp edges, so I assume it is the ethanol i...

Re: How do I get my square four frame dated?

You can get a dating certificate for your frame from the club, or from Draganfly.
To obtain a registration number in the UK you need the complete bike, plus a number of certificates, forms and payment. There may even be an inspection to verify it.
The process is described on the club website.

I’ve been following this thread with great interest, as it has reached into the furthest corners of “it won’t start” leaving no stone unturned, but success is elusive. Chris, please keep us updated, thanks, Paul

Re: Lucas distributor for a Square 4

Interesting. I had assumed that Waller was talking about 22 degrees on the advance retard unit in the distributor, but 22 degrees BTDC on the crank as you point out, makes more sense. Just as an aside I “fell in to a rabbit hole” with DK distributors. Plenty of DK4X’s out there (they were fitted to ...

Re: Flow rate from the oil tank

It will flow a lot quicker when it’s been warmed up by the engine.
