Thanks for the advice John, but both gears are knackered. I had hoped the gear was shrunk on to the gearbox shaft and I could grind it off and fit new gears.
Elsewhere on the forum I saw a set of new gears for a 'Q' type gearbox. I take it they would not be the same?

No, nothing like it. The Enfield one bolts on to the front engine plate and folds up behind the exhaust pipe. Will post a picture when I can get at that bit of the bike.

Thanks Nev. Just had a look at the bike and it's not as bad as I expected. I think I remembered to spray it with 3 in 1 at some time. The main job is going to be dismantling the gearbox to renew the speedo drive gear on the shaft. I spotted a kit on one of the forum replies.

I don't know if it helps, but I used a side stand off an Indian Enfield. A bit of drilling and grinding and it works a treat.
