Re: loose crankshaft coupling remidies required

thanks Paul I'm hoping you're wrong but equally I could be living in denial. I tried cleaning up the coupling gear centre this afternoon and also the area of the crank which it engages. Hard to describe but a dimpled effect on some of the coupling gear mating surface but also some areas of very smoo...

loose crankshaft coupling remidies required

Hi All Its a while since I have posted here as the old square 4 has been quite reliable (with the exception of oil leaks around the head) until about 500 miles or so ago when I noticed a clonking noise that got progressively worse. I have had a number of issues after the the initial rebuild (about 6...

Re: Man and sloper come a cropper.

Chris really glad you are home and on the mend. Its hard enough looking around and riding defensively in case of bad drivers without simultaneously looking at every dip in the road for pot holes. Hope your bike gets mended soon.My Ariel was half crushed by a van about 4 years ago and my friends neve...

Re: solex - poor mpg

I eventually found my original problem was that the timing had slipped on the distributor, probably on that run on new years day. Took a while to figure it out but trial and error got the bike working properly again. In future I will use the fully advanced position for timing as I think the static t...

Re: Sq 4 MK II (Solex) Reluctant to cold start

Paul
when you get the bike running what happens if you apply the bi-starter when warm?
If the answer is no change, then the bi-starter must not be functioning as the bike should instantly stall

Re: solex - poor mpg

Well at long last I have pulled the carb off and inspected it. The air correction jet looked partially blocked so I blew some air down it which seemed to clear it. I then (for some reason not even known to me) blew air down the other end and then it looked restricted again - couldn't see daylight wh...

Re: solex - poor mpg

Chris thanks for the advice. I think the dimple you mention refers to the section on the top of the float which has a sort of dimple but mine is a greater depression within that caused by wear. I will certainly give the idea of changing washers a go as in the past I have noticed that the bike does i...
