Re: help sq 4 wont run

Flushing oil will not avoid the potential problem of blocked sludge traps. It may precipitate the problem because what is loosened by the flushing process will end up in the sludge traps. Once muck reaches one of the traps it cannot escape and builds up to the point at which an oilway is blocked. Th...

Re: help sq 4 wont run

Is fuel getting through from the tank properly?

Any problem with the oiling system is likely to appear first as an exposed con-rod.

Re: 1954 MKII for sale by auction

There's a pair of holes in the forward tank mount on Mk 11 frames which seem purpose-made for the front two, I think they are visible in Gui's Mk1 frame, one carrying the clutch cable, and maybe slightly enlarged by comparison with what I recall. Gui Dorey's Square Four pushrods post.

Re: valve guides

There are various threads concerning the oiling problem on the forum. David Anderson has suggestions about it, including some sealant at the collets and the use of Viton rings, but I'll suggest somebody else might post links/quotes - I'm behind on that sort of thing. Might be worth putting 'oiltight...

Re: 4G Conrod Advice

Earlier in this thread it has been pointed out that it is more expensive to re-metal than to purchase new rods - therefore no point in a discount.

Re: SQ4 Brake Light Switch

I obviously can't see everything from here. Is there scope for fitting the switch the other side of the bracket?

Re: Square Four Push Rods

Hello again Gui, I am no engineer! I would want the valve caps to sit higher, I would also be happy to grind the guide tops provided it is possible to fit Mk11 type 'hats' to prevent over-oiling. Leaving the guide tops sharp and chamfered is supposed to help with the same effect. Again only from Mk1...
