I want to remove the flutes from my NH tank for rechroming and as this is the first Ariel I have owned with flutes can anyone tell me the easiest way to remove before I do any damage? I assume they are just clipped and are removed by just easing forward but that seems too easy.

Can anyone tell me the function of the Halite washer under bottom collar of valve springs? I note that these appear in the VH diagrams but not in the NH and Drags descibe them as for singles. Personally I have never seen them on post war NH models but have I missed something or were they only fitted...

Only ever used matched gearsor originals in box and never found any wear lines very fine or not. I would suggest it's a function of the epicyclic profile and how well it was machined and matched and Chris is absolutely corect about modern gears.
