The AOMCC has the factory records and the archivist can look things up. So far as I know the records are in engine order rather than frame order which can make it hard to find a bike by its frame, that's certainly the case for the older factory records. That sounds very loud to me. Although the fibre gear would probably bed in after a while there would be a big strain on the shaft and bearing which would be unhealthy.
