The results are in! I put the full plate stack together and it was slightly fatter than the outgoing fiber plate stack but that is without the corks being settled. The last plain plate only just managed to slide onto the clutch inner. When I was setting up the springs it seemed like there was a bit...

The 1938 NH Red Hunters were officially listed as NH1 or NH2 depending upon the number of pipes (same as the VH). The deluxe models did not have this option as standard. Thanks all for comments. The basket and centre don't look too notchy so I think it's the plates. I've just sent an email to Geoff Brown to ask for a full set of plates and springs and hope this will cure it. I'll take a look at the primary chain tension and also check the clutch centre for eccentric...

I've been reading some posts about clutch friction materials on this forum and thought I'd put up some photos of mine (38VH) for some expert advice (that's you lot) The clutch even after a good clean really grinds when I put it into gear, especially first but going up the order it is still a bit unh...

Looks honest from a distance. So long as it's not worn out and recommissioning doesn't mean 3 years in the garage it should be a good usable bike.
