Re: Daily Fixing and Riding Diary on an Ariel 2019

It's not only the elevation, the gulf stream keeps Britain warm and wet.
Scientists saied it slowed down in the last years, wonder what happens when ist stops.

28 Model B rear hub

While investigating the condition of my Model B I found a badly worn rear brake drum. Thickness of the drum material is about 1,7mm/0,07in, with a step to the outer end. Don't know the original thickness but think it could be 3-4mm/0,12-0,16in. It seems to me quite dangerous to ride this. Have't hea...

Re: Magneto or not?

Second that Paul,

my KH runs since 30k km extremely reliable on its magneto. Starts always first kick, perfect idle - the factory setup works very well. There is no need for a questionable improvement on this model .

Re: 38 square

They make a nice change from the hassle of old British bikes (wheel them out, start them up, ride 900 miles with a couple of stops for fuel, put them back in the garage ready for next time. No oil leaks).

Life is not long enough for riding boring bikes

Re: OTTO Sq 4 gaskets

I have good experience with 'Loctite Ultra Copper' around the pushrod holes and around the stud holes too. The long nuts in the rockerboxes got it around their collar too. Didn't ever cutted the gaskets.

Re: Volume vs. Depth of Black Ariel Oil Tanks

A sidevalver has always a poor efficiency caused by construction - on the other hand is it a bulletproof construction and a good choice for a long distance trip. (see 1927 Maudes Trophy) Model B's oilconsumption is 3l per 1000km but this could vary on your settings, it needs less than you think. My ...

Re: Volume vs. Depth of Black Ariel Oil Tanks

My 28B sucks around 6l per 100km, maximum distance until I have to fill up is 130km. Tank volume is approx. 8,5l.
Sorry for the continental numbers.

You need a lot of filling stations for the cannonball distance.
