Re: ‘38 Red Hunter on ebay

Hi Dave.
Great photo. You are lucky to have early photos of your Ariel.
I would leave it as it is also.

Re: ‘38 Red Hunter on ebay

Dave, your glass may be correct. It may depend on date of manufacture, etc. If it is a Lucas, ribbed, motorcycle 8" lens then it is definitely worth keeping and using. Quite rare and break easily. I use a replica of this lens on my 37RH and store the original. Headlamp glass lenses "may&qu...

Re: ‘38 Red Hunter on ebay

The headlamp glass shown on the e-bay Ariel appears to be a Lucas U pattern lens which I do not think is correct.

Paul is correct about the headlight for the 1938 Ariel.
A domed Lucas lens was used in 1938. Photo below is from brochure.

Re: ‘38 Red Hunter on ebay

This appears to be a very original Ariel. A few "minor" things... - regulator should be laying on side, top facing front of bike, brass cover parallel to frame rail - lower, seat mounts are too high and incorrect - mufflers are of the lower exhaust style. *Note the long mounting strap. - w...

Re: FOR SALE : 1935 500cc

Should this not have the 3 brush generator with no regulator, not a Lucas MT110 tail lamp, incorrect finned exhaust clamps, oil line to oil gauge looks to be missing, headlamp dip switch likely incorrect, knob on tool box should likely be chrome, missing chrome covers on valves, looks to be somethin...

Re: Smiths M3 clock

Hi again Stewart. The Club makes an excellent reproduction of the Cricklewood 8 Day clock. You will have to check and see if still available. Save the rare original and use the repro. Engine vibration is not a friend to delicate clock movements. DraganFly used to carry the same clock. (now on back o...

Re: Smiths M3 clock

Hi Stewart, That is the correct clock (2 inch). Pretty rare piece. As far as I remember, the face can be rotated 180 degrees and then all will be fine. Two small screws visible on face. Be careful and use a good fitting screwdriver. Soft brass screws and the paint marks up very easily. It may pay to...

Re: Rear lamp identification

Hi Alan,
I have two MT110 lamps, each having a different type of lens.
Possibly the glass, jewelled lens is pre-war. This is what I have on the 37RH.
My NOS war department MT110 has a plain red plastic lens.
