Re: Break-in notes (4G Square - 1937 engine)

Hi Bob, Paul and Simes and fellow enthusiasts, Thanks for great tips. I am noticing the bike starts coughing and jerking if you are stranded in traffic or traffic stops. I also noticed that the head gasket was leaking today. Are there chances of blowing the head gasket? Or what are the other dangers...

Re: Break-in notes (4G Square - 1937 engine)

Dear Dave, Ian, Nev, and Paul, Many thanks for your comments. I adjusted the clutch and primary chain. I had to grind just a tiny bit off the clutch push rod. It is because I had put a small ball bearing on both sides of the clutch rod and apparently that was causing the extremely tight clutch cable...

Re: Break-in notes (4G Square - 1937 engine)

Dear fellow enthusiasts, The Solex is sorted out now and bike is on the road again. Another of my earlier problems was that left rear cylinder was not firing (for the simple reason that the plug wire was loose). That too has been corrected and hopefully all four cylinders are firing now. I noticed y...

Re: Break-in notes (4G Square - 1937 engine)

Dear fellow enthusiasts, Here are some nasty looking photos of the left rear spark plug. As I mentioned before, the plug wire was loose. Thus it appears that this cylinder did not see a lot of action in the first 150 miles. The other plug is also sooty because the bike was running rich mixture. Arie...

Break-in notes (4G Square - 1937 engine)

Dear fellow enthusiasts, I created a new thread as the title of the old thread was bit outdated and not very informative. For those of you reading my thread first time, it is a Square with 1937 4G engine in a 1948 tele/rigid frame. I did a total rebuild on the bike with new liners, new set of standa...

4G SQ4 (1937 engine; 1948 frame)

Dear fellow enthusiasts, I did about 150 miles on the bike without any problems. These were short runs of 7 to 10 miles with variable speeds. This Sunday I was taking the bike to my friend Rick’s for re-torque. I took off on the freeway at a speed of about 50 mph. I did the first 8 miles with no pro...

Re: SQ4 mainshaft issues

Dear fellow enthusiasts, Thanks Chris, Paul, and Stuart. All seems to be well. I have done 12 heat cool cycles (approx. 8 miles each). The bike now seems to be bit more smoother. This morning was an effortless 50mph before I realized I was probably pushing it too fast too soon. I am going to re-torq...

Re: SQ4 mainshaft issues

Dear fellow enthusiasts, This has been an exciting evening (for a not so exciting reason). The cooling ring covering the right-side exhaust port came loose. It happened just when I stepped out of home. The noise caught my attention and I stopped on side of the road. I then noticed that the ring was ...

Re: SQ4 mainshaft issues

Dear fellow enthusiasts, As Paul suggested oil was indeed leaking from the two bolts on the right side of rocker box. A little tightening helped cure that problem. Thanks Paul. I am nearing the first head re-torque stage. On Draganfly's website, I can see Bruce Longman's recommended torque setting f...

Re: SQ4 mainshaft issues

Dear all, Thanks for great tips. I will take it out this weekend and report back. The last few days have been bit warm here (and my attention is divided between newly rebuilt S8 Sunbeam and the Ariel). May I admit that after riding the Square, the S8 seems much more nimble and "fast". Paul...
