Re: Mk1 Sq 4 Carb

Hi Folks - with respect to streaching springs - such is unlikely to be a really permanent cure... the streach process will require repeating occassionally... I'm going to experiment by winding some heavier guage coils as permanent resolution 'cos AMAL don't make a heavy duty spring option. Such may ...

Re: Sq4 Block to crankcase spacer?

Hi Bob - I'm using IMD, the hi-comp style in a Mk1... Here's a excerpt from a msg string I had with Andy Wright of IMD; - Hi John, Yes, this is the correct compression that you require. We also have designed the piston in such a way that there is enough material on the top that you can lower the com...

Re: Sq4 Block to crankcase spacer?

Nev - thanks for your comments - I'll see what the protrusion is on initial dry-fit assembly....
& do some measurements & sums to ascertain any possibility of valve to piston crown clash

Re: Square four mk1 frame

Hi Simes - "How do you find yours handles John?" - well as you imply... certainly NOT like a modern machine! - from ~1975 through to 2018 I owned various BMW boxers from the R90S upwards.. to which in comparison the Sq definately does NOT handle... but treat the Sq as the 70 yo which it is...

Re: Square four mk1 frame

Seem to recall some few years back a club gent created a batch of swing-arm frames for Sqs - might be worth searching for one of these 'cos at least then the machine might handle..!

Re: Mk1 Sq 4 Carb

Hi TJ, Thanks for the jet info. I too suspect the carb on ebay is NOT the correct device... & I do not see the bi-start mech... but the flange to which you refer may be rotated to the requisite orientation - it is a square fixture located by four corner screws. On the Amal front the suggested sp...

Re: Use the AOMCClub guys!

Further to my opening message, another example; - Set (x8) New cam followers for Mk1 or Mk2 Sq c/o Draganfly = £249.52 (inc VAT, ex PP) (Drags quote Out of Stock & 12 week delay) c/o AOMCC = £165.00 (all inc) - In stock... This appears quite horrendous, especially as I am now informed that Draga...

Re: Kneegrip threads

Not to worry... Ariel used 3BA for my Sq's tank badges... now where can one get 3BA 1/4" instrument heads in stainless?
Oh well... I had some made.

Cheers, John

Re: MK1 sump oil level

Yea - it's quite alarming the number of persons who think "I've got new motor parts... better use a good super slippery oil" totally wrong! We all want our moving parts to bed in & to achieve a polished mirror finish... all polishes are abrasives... You want a nice paint job? - so you ...
