Re: 4G Grease Dashpot 464261

Hello Folks Let me remind this Greaser has two functions. The lube duty - lack of greaser is easily overcome with a grease nipple (as on my 4G). BUT the proper bit of kit locates the Distributor Drive and stops it moving up & down. I made a stop like the retainer for the speedo cable at the gear...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition

Hello Folks, I am very grateful to John for a nice explanation about CB adjusting But especially for identifying the points as Bosch GM208. I got on the web and I found these were fitted to many engines - particularly Mazda RX3. Plus as you pointed out Mitsubishi used Mazda engines in Forklifts and ...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition

Good Morning, I was very impressed by Paul's photo of the steam locomotive - it smokes more than my 4G (if I can ever get it running). I also think the converted magneto is nit cause of the starting issues. But one thing lingering in the back of my mind is that the points mounting plates are magneti...

Re: What does this horn bracket fit?

Hello Paul
It looks like a bracket for a Clearhooter horn, which I deeper than an Altette.

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition

Hello there I have had the magneto off and on the bench. For the first time I can really see details of the previous mods to convert to coil. First off (and most important) the quality of the conversion is astounding - far better than the stuff made by Prince of Darkness. A New Armature Shaft Rotor ...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition

Good Morning, I have only ridden 160 miles in 2019 and about 410 miles in since July 2016. BSA, Velocette and VB have been used. This year have only ridden the bike about 15 times since the rebuild. Most of the starts have been 'cold' using BiStarter, even though Japan is a lot warmer than UK (usual...

QE2 Solex IMG_0637.JPG 4G distributor rotors IMG_0631.JPG Good morning, I have spent most of the morning with digital frustration - its worse than 4G frustration. I tried to put 2 photos in the text. First one is the bane of my life - The BiStarter. I always have to use it, even on very hot days - ...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition

Hello Everyone, welcome to more frustration. Back in May 4G was running well (with electronic AVR). Dynamo not connected so misfire developed with low voltage. I then got into the Dynamo; Re-magnetized/Flashed and Motored on the bench. Refitted to bike, it started and I checked voltages. Seemed OK. ...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition

Hello Everyone Not much to report on the 4G- but I have a unique excuse. We had a monster sized typhoon in the early hours of Monday 7th. No damage to my house or workshop - but a big tree was uprooted in the garden - it fell across the garden, so that took some tidying. Power lines were down 350,00...
