Re: SQ4 Mk2 starting issues

Many thanks all. I'll experiment with the tehniques - it is now starting so I think the main problem was either fuel level or retarded timing.

Re: SQ4 Mk2 starting issues

Some progress I think.... I had previously set the float height as 'per book' but decided to raise it a bit. I set it so that it wasn't quite overflowing from the top of the float chamber then set the mixture nut at 1.5 turns out. I also advanced the engine a few degrees and it started after a few k...

SQ4 Mk2 starting issues

My bike has covered around 200 miles since full rebuild. It's often taken upwards of 15-20 kicks to start from cold and i've assumed that's down to the long inlet tract from the SU. However, after being stood over winter it won't start and I have to give up due to exhaustion! Spark seems good - alth...

Re: Sq4 1938 frame wanted ansty + Forks as well

Hi Howard, sorry but they went quite quickly! I have a few bits and pieces left over but mainly from clutch with a few spare chromes nuts and bolts.
Let me know if you think I might help.

Regards,
Bernie

Re: '58 SQ4 REBUILD

Yes, toolbox looks right to me but modified to carry instruments that could only be seen if your head was in the back of your knee! If you can't get another one then a GRP repair using 'woven roving' sheet on the back and epoxy resin will work well, then fill the front and sand flush. When you say t...

Re: Plunger suspension ride height adjustment

Seconded. They make the 0.312 springs as their part number HSNO2555.
Mine arrived next day and have made a huge difference when riding two-up.

Re: Sq4 1938 frame wanted ansty + Forks as well

Not sure if the back end of the frame you need is similar to the later ones but I have the rear end of a '56 Mk2 surplus to requirements if it helps.
Geometry of tubes is not quite right but the Ansty plunger suspension units are in very good condition. Located in Norfolk UK.

Cheers,
Bernie
