Changing the clutch sprocket

I decided to try the Drags 40 tooth sprocket on my 56 SQ4 and ordered the part which comes with new dowels for attachment to the existing chainwheel hub - Drags don't supply these. However, all attempts to press the original dowels out to free the hub have failed and I'm now wondering if these are a...

Re: SQ4 primary chain slap

Many thanks for your suggestions. It's a recent rebuild and the chain is new and all rollers appear to ne present and correct. However, the gearbox and clutch parts have not been renewed so it could be down to wear. I did notice that when I deflect the primary chain to check tension - with the gearb...

SQ4 primary chain slap

Having removed and replaced the primary chain case as part of fixing some oil leaks I find that I now have an occasional loud slap or banging sound when running with the bike on the rear stand which seems to get worse when the weight is on the wheels. If the primary chain was loose I can imagine it ...

Re: Re Electronic Ignition for squ 4's problem

Hi Keith et al. Just like to say that I really appreciate all the info in this topic as, having just built my Mk2 from long neglected parts the generator isn't working.

I've been wondering whether to pay to have it repaired or use the money to go for the 12V option and then EI.

Cheers,
Bernie

Re: MK11 square re-build do`s and don`ts!

I looked at the camshaft spraybar mod when building mine but, after fitting a Morgo pump, the volume of oil coming from the rocker spindles and running down the push rods makes me think I'm probably pretty well lubed there. I do find that the amount of oil coming from the OPRV fills the timing case ...

Re: SQ4 nacelle - speedo cable fouling h/lamp shell

Hi Simon,
No, and I couldn't see one in the Drags catalogue (which is where I found the reference to the drilled shell).
I think that would work better if that's an option.

Cheers,
Bernie

Re: SQ4 nacelle - speedo cable fouling h/lamp shell

Ah, Just found the info that the '56 shell (SS700P) originally had holes to take the cable through but that later replacements don't have these. Sounds like I have a replacement - time for the hole saw!

Cheers,
Bernie

SQ4 nacelle - speedo cable fouling h/lamp shell

It's taken me ages to source a speedo cable and having finally found one and fitted it I find that the cable is fouling the back of the headlamp shell close to the union with the speedo. As it's so close there's no flexibility there and I'm wondering if I have the wrong shell fitted as I can't see h...

Re: MK11 square re-build do`s and don`ts!

Small world - I also had mine done by Hamlins! A few things I know now that I didn't before: I also had the crankshaft mains reground and, during the process, they cleaned up the cheeks of the journal a bit. The result of this - maybe compounded by a difference in the depth of the new crankshaft bus...
