Re: A question on ignition timing methods

Any ideas as to how an engine can run backwards if the spark is occurring at 20 degrees before TDC?
Does this only happen when retro fitted electronic ignition is used or can it happen with both?
I have only ever used points ignition on mine and never had it happen

Re: A question on ignition timing methods

When I was a teenager and before we had timing discs or any idea what the timing should be, the norm was to advance the distributor to best engine speed and then retard a little. I would hope that, for a standard engine and using timing equipment, the manufactures settings could not be bettered but ...

Re: 1962 Golden Arrow, remove primary chain case

How are you getting on with it Bernie? With the storms gone I have ventured into the workshop this morning. The 1/4 drive socket needed to adjust the chain is actually a 5.5mm. I know it’s a bit odd using a hex socket to engage onto a flat tang but it works so much better than that nylon plug. Their...

Re: 1962 Golden Arrow, remove primary chain case

You don’t need to get the mole grips IN the hole.
Use a long enough self tapper so that it extends to outside the chaincase.

Re: 1962 Golden Arrow, remove primary chain case

Is the metal drive tang of the adjuster exposed? I use a 1/4 socket on the tang to make adjustments, I think it’s a 4.5mm socket that fits. I can check if it will help? Otherwise you could drill into the remainder of the plug and screw a self tapper in, using mole grips to pull it out and then slack...

Re: Arrow Engine gaskets

Hi Jess

I was interested to hear of your experience and have a question. Is there a disadvantage to simply applying a modern silicon gasket sealant on this joint face and not bother with a paper gasket?

Re: My latest project

That chaincase looks pretty good and just like the real thing, I’d like to have a bash myself.
Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Re: My latest project

Hi Lawrie

You’re making good progress there.
I too have been waiting for Drags to make some lower chain cases but fear I may be too old to ride by the time they get them in! Are you making in steel and how difficult is it to do without a sample to copy?

Re: Crank Locking Tool

Hello David

In the absence of any other replies so far, I have one and would be happy to lend it out but it’s one I machined up and made quite a bit beefier than the norm so postage would be a problem. Where are you from?

Re: POWDERCOATING Arrow rear shocks???

My only experience of messing with shockers was from my Hillman Imp days when I wanted to produce my own stiffer dampers. I simply drilled and drained the old oil out before tapping for a plug which had to be sealed into place. I refilled with a variety of viscosities until I found the one that suit...
