Re: Finish on fastners

Dave, Interesting reading. I have been trying out Parkerising today on some old bolts. Loads of info on the WWW from people refinishing firearms. Phosphoric acid = HG rust treatment from B and Q which is about 40 to 50% strength Manganese Dioxide = the black stuff from the inside of 3 D cell batteri...

Yes it does- .0005 per inch, which for my 3.2605 inch piston is .0016 which seems awfully tight to me.

Re: Modern reg inside MCR2 box??

I note you say you checked the wiring and polorised the Dynamo again....is it possible it was wrongly polorised when regulator was initially fitted?. If so I think that may well fry part of the regulator. I think that 8 volts when charging is a bit high, the nominal voltage per cell should be 2 volt...

Re: Magneto Rebuild

On the recommendation of AOMCC members and others last year I had an MO1 and a BTH done by Tony Cooper in the UK. I believe he does the reconditioned units for Draganfly as well as some other UK suppliers. I took mine to him in person and I have to say I was very impressed with his knowledge, helpfu...

Finish on fastners

Most of the original fasteners on my 1939 VH have a matt black finish on them, no sign of any zinc/cadmium plate. I do my own plating so I would normally fit new BZP or re-plate in Zinc and then clear passivate. I am not too concerned about absolute originality but I found out that you can also use ...

Re: VH misting from carb

Certainly sounds like the valve timing is out meaning the compression pressure is blowing air through the inlet valve and then through the carb. If you have the timing marks aligned correctly I would put a timing disc on it and check where the valves are opening and closing. This thread should give ...

Re: FH cylinder head advice please

Duncan..to test the vales are sealing leave then in situ, screw the plugs back in and then, with the head inverted, fill the combustion chambers with petrol or paint thinners. If they are sealing OK the level should not drop. If the liquid can find a way through then you will be loosing compression ...

Re: Rear number plate from India

Wade, Yes I know its is technically wrong for 1939 :( but it is far better than the 1940's one that was on it. Drags list the correct one, 5647-39, but it is £70 and order only. I am undecided yet whether to modify it with a cut out for the 1130 lamp or just go with the MT110 which I already have. W...
