Thats for all the interest. The Ariel factory records certainly show the machine (with an XG frame number and CE engine number) was despatched to a chap in Germany in Sept 1939 but they also show it was returned to the factory a few days later and then despatched to the CIST (ministry of supply). My understanding is that civilain machines of all types were requisitioned, especially at the start of WW2 until production caught up with demand. At Ariel works non W/NG contract machines (mainly VA,VB,VG,VH) were also supplied to the forces from 1939 to 1941. This is a link to information on the D...

My 1939 VH was initially supplied to the Ministry of Supply when war broke out (it was origionally sold to a chap in Germany but did not make it past the docks). I am in need of a VH piston. Has anyone any first hand advice they can give on te fitting of either a JP or the omega sold through single spares as pictured above.

I am torn beteween the extra weight of the Jp and the short skirt on the Omega
