Re: BA gearbox speedo gearing

thanks all. the gearbox is a BA and the engine no is BJ which suggests at some time the bike was a 500. the speedo is 120mph. Being a 500 speedo (with the correct ariel code on the dial) and a 500 box the problem would have to be in the gearbox gearing rather than the speedo. I will check the number...

BA gearbox speedo gearing

Does anyone know how to identify BA gearbox layshafts 3144-34, 47, 48, 50 and speedo gears 3150-31, 47, 50. I take it there should be a different number of teeth (and I would have thought they would have had to work as year pairs) . Reason being I have recently completed a 1948 NH restoration. The g...

Wanted parts for 1952VB

Vincent
I mean the exhaust tappet locknut, part no 1830-29 (and the tappet adjustins screw 1815-26) Apparantly it is not a normal nut but larger and the valve lifter operates on it. Ive never seen one. I am building the engine from a dismantled lot of parts. thanks

Re: Ozzy Piston

Barry you cannot see if a piston is cam ground, you will have to check it with a micrometer. Measure the piston just below the rings from back to front and then measure it at 90 degrees ie in line with the gudgeon. if the piston is cam finished it should be about .006" less in line with the gud...

Re: improving VB performance

Brenton to raise the oil level to the inner timing chest is quite easy and probably the most worthwhile mod you can do to a single. Put simply drill a 1/4" hole in the crankcase at the level you desire the oil to be at, preferably with the cam lobe dipping into the oil. It is then a matter of c...

Re: Ozzy Piston

Barry undoubtedly an Art Senior piston as all Senior pistons were identified like that. Senior pistons were not cam ground but were turned round on a lathe so should be run with a little extra clearance. People have been known to have the the piston cam ground after purchasing from Senior. The pisto...

Re: Improving the front forks

Vincent Yes you have it. the reason I used 8 4mm holes is that the area of those 8 holes is slightly bigger than the area of the emulator valve. As such there would not be any damping except that provided by the emulator. The rods in my Eddie Dow dampers on my VH are 3/8” aluminium and have never lo...
