Paul, thanks again for the reply, yes it is an iron engine 1951 will remove head during the winter months and check for flatness then refit with new gasket using a smear of grease regards kevin

Paul, Thanks for the reply i am also running on 20/50 oil so am getting the same oil pressure as your bike that is good as i was thinking something was wrong. i think the next step is to remove the head and check to see if the faces are flat and re fit with a new gasket. One more question do you use...

kh oil pressure

since rebuilding my kh the oil pressure is sky high on start up and riding along it goes up to 100 and on tick over it reads around 25. i sent the oil pressure gauge away to have it cleaned and checked out so would assume it to be working ok. Also after doing about 200 miles so far and re tightening...

Re balance factor, when rebuilding my 1951 KH I had the crankshaft re balanced at T and L engineering just looked at the paperwork 62% was the figure that they gave. I have only done about 100 miles on the bike since but the engine feels nice and smooth certainly smoother than my 1967 T100c Triumph....

I like it but it was just like that when the whole process started the main thing is I kept the original registration that was given to the bike in 1951, its such a shame when an age related plate is given to an old bike.

It was not the kickstart return spring that was the problem it was the spring that goes over the pinion sleeve when compressed up solid there was not enough clearance to allow the ratchet gears to pass on the return stroke of the kickstart. kevin
