Re: Square Four MkI restoration complete - almost....

That all sounds very familiar! First time I test rode my bike it wouldn't shift from 1st gear. Turned out I had replaced shift lever too low

Re: Square Four MkI restoration complete - almost....

I recently got my '53 Mk II back together after a 2.5 year hibernation. All new engine innards. The first 100 miles or so were disheartening. It was clearly running incredibly hot, so I would limit my runs to just a few miles at a time at first. In addition, it seems oil was leaking everywhere. It d...

Re: FITTING SQUARE FOUR ENGINE INTO FRAME

Ralph, I just finished a complete engine overhaul for my '53 MK II. Given the difficulty of getting the head in place "in situ", I decided to completely assemble my engine on the bench (sans distributor and carburetor) and install the complete engine in the frame. Yes, it is a bit heavy, b...

Re: Plunger suspension ride height adjustment

Bernie,
I tried placing an order with Harlow Springs, but they quickly informed me that they only ship to addresses in England. Guess I'll just have to wait the 10-12 weeks for Draganfly to get around to placing a replacement order with them!

Re: help sq 4 wont run

I agree.. after riding my Norton Commando with the pair of Amals, then getting on the Ariel with the finger-light throttle.. all the difference in the world. The Ariel makes the Norton feel like a crude Flintstones machine!

Hi Bernie
Glad your problem was solved.
May I ask what was the price for those springs?

Re: Plunger suspension ride height adjustment

Bernie
I guess I recently got the very last spring (one only) from Dfly. The dimensions are very close to that stated on their website.. Approx 6.5" long and 2" diameter

Rear suspension spring for Sq 4 MK II Plunger frame

As an interim measure, I cut a 1/2" spacer (the difference in length between old and new springs) from 2" aluminum rod. Then it got installed on top of the old spring. IMG_20190320_141057.jpg The 2" diameter of the spacer rod was ever so larger than the inside of the chrome plunger ca...

Re: Baxter Cycle Tap Plungers

After going through 3 sets of replacement plunger corks, none of which were leakproof, and almost impossible to slide as well, I broke down and bought a set of beautifully machined-from-brass o-ring plungers from Baxter Cycle in the US http://www.baxtercycle.com Each unit is $20 US and comes with so...

Re: Upward pointing Brake Arm vs downward pointing

Thanks Simes
I am going to stick with the cable, it just isn't making sense to make a bunch of modifications for a system that may not be as positive as the cable
