Re: Square 4 MK II petrol tank fitment

Thanks for that advice David , on all counts. I did plan on using my TIG, vs MIG, if for no other reason to avoid splatter onto the "good" part of the tank, but I hadn't considered the need to use stainless rods.. you probably saved me a lot of grief! I didn't see an indent underneath in m...

Re: Square 4 MK II petrol tank fitment

Thanks Ken, Because of expensive shipping costs US-India ($100 USD or so), the seller eventually agreed to let me keep the tank for just $50 total (he reimbursed the remaining cost, including original shipping). My frame (1953) definitely has only 13" front-to-rear centered lugs, but I figure e...

Sq 4 Mk II How to remove Crank drive sprocket

I am down to my primary drive now in the disassembly process, but am scratching my head as to how to get a socket or spanner on that big nut on the crankshaft cush drive. Is it normal for the nut to be sunken in to the spring indentation? Any advice would be appreciated

Re: Adding an oil pressure gauge.. Sq 4 mk ii

Perhaps my oiler pipe assembly is not original, but it does not have a threaded "T".. all the fittings are soldered onto the pipe: oil line2.jpg I am still currently leaning toward tapping into the oil tank return line as someone suggested, unless somebody convinces me that isn't a good id...

Re: Adding an oil pressure gauge.. Sq 4 mk ii

Thanks for all those valuable replies. I am leaning toward Peter Jones' solution of running the rocker feed off the oil tank return line, since I do have the Morgo pump as well. I am also installing the Dragan-provided oil filter, so will have to use new hose anyway (which comes with the filter). I ...

Square 4 MK II petrol tank fitment

Yesterday I received an all chrome tank I ordered for my '53 MK II, with reservation, from India, with the idea of doing my own painting/pin striping (my tank is currently serviceable, but only after plugging up some 5-6 pin holes). The tank was advertised on eBay specifically for the MK II Ariel. I...

Re: Adding an oil pressure gauge.. Sq 4 mk ii

Simon, Thanks for that reply.. perhaps I am missing something, but I did spend a good bit of time looking at that connection, and I don't see any way to add a second "piggyback" banjo to that threaded or pressed in stud on the timing chest, unless I have missed a secondary outlet? Of cours...

Adding an oil pressure gauge.. Sq 4 mk ii

If I ever get my mark II trashed engine Back Together I want to add an oil pressure gauge to the engine Especially since I have the Morgo oil pump I installed a nice gauge kit on my Norton Commando a while back but after looking at the external oil pipes on the Ariel I am at a bit of a loss as to wh...

Square 4 MK II engine blown

The topic I originally posted in the "spares wanted" column for replacement cylinder head : http://forum.arielownersmcc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5834 seems to have morphed into a full blown (and well-appreciated) discussion on the condition of the head and possible remedies. I though...
