Exhaust blow back

Hi, My VH is running pretty well since I did a rebuild. The crankshaft has been balanced with an Omega 7.5:1 piston and HS cam fitted with normal followers. It seems to burst into life in top gear from about 45 mph. I recently fitted a new exhaust and silencer from Feked. The silencer is a true copy...

Re: 57 on singles , return pump check valve in timing cover.

Hi Nev,
What would you recommend for exhaust valve springs on an iron head VH?
Also, any thoughts about an iron head NH?

John,
I have had no problems resulting from the mod; well at least so far!

Re: 57 on singles , return pump check valve in timing cover.

Hi John, If you are in the mood for it, I think the cam oil level mod is also worth doing. I have done it on my VH and coupled with the direct feed to the rockers, the cam gets a good oiling. I understand that it has long been considered a shortfall of the engine in that the cam and followers wear p...

Re: 57 on singles , return pump check valve in timing cover.

There was a service note for this (attached).

I have carried out the mod on my 1950VH - it is simple to do but it involves removing the outer casting and using a pillar drill.

Re: Dynamo / Electronic regulator woes -Updare

Hi, Well I thought that i'd fixed the problem, but hadn't - it returned. I do now believe however, that it is finally sorted. I had used the original regulator box, having removed the electromechanical device, soldering the wires of the new regulator to the terminals. herein was the problem. The ter...

Hi Steve,

Re: Broken-up Magneto Drive Chain

Hi, I have carefully examined the chain and checked the alignment of the sprockets as were, before loosening off the magneto. The sprockets appeared to be more or less in alignment when placing a steel rule across the drive and magneto. On examining the sprockets they appear to be true if I lay them...

Re: Broken-up Magneto Drive Chain - further comments sought

Hi, I have just removed the sprockets and chain. Following advice from Jane at sprockets unlimited, I have examined the chain carefully and theer are no scuff marks on the insides of the links that might indicate misalignment. What I have found is that: 1) the rollers that have broken are all on the...

Re: Broken-up Magneto Drive Chain

Hi All, Thanks for your suggestions etc. I have emailed sprockets unlimited to see if they can help me with a new chain. Drags don't have any and further, when they do the chains they now sell have a split link; not sure what to make of that?! I shall strip everything down tomorrow and take into acc...

Broken-up Magneto Drive Chain

Hi, I felt as though the timing on my VH was a bit retarded even on full advance, so today I decided to check it, and yes points were opening at about 1/4 inch BTDC on full advance (well approximately because sticking something through the plug hole is not that accurate, but based on the notches on ...
