Re: Daily Fixing and Riding Diary on an Ariel 2019

Hi Steve,

When I recall my first attempts with a sidecar it makes me thankful to have survived, but, once I got the hang of it, it was great fun!!!

Hope you'll post some pics!

Keith :D

p.s. Congratulations to the bride (and proud parents)!

Engine Breathing Singles - return to oil tank

Hi, I fitted a Yamaha reed valve to my VH (crank case breather) and it has been quite successful in as much the engine is now pretty oil tight. It does however eject some oil from here all the same and I was wondering if anyone had experimented with returning the crank case breather back to the oil ...

Re: Scew thread size & type?

All, I have resolved my problem with the voltage regulator not switching on. Despite having measured the resistance between the dynamo body and the earthing point below the saddle, and it having appeared to be fine, it was not since connecting a wire directly between said earthing point and the dyna...

Scew thread size & type?

Hi,
Does anyone know what the thread type and size are for the screw that holds the Bakelite end plate with the F & D terminals to the casting / dynamo body?

I want to purchase a long screw and some nuts so that I can get a direct earth connection to the dynamo.

Thanks,
Keith

Re: Daily Fixing and Riding Diary on an Ariel 2019

Hi Steve,
That Yamaha is a bit of a contrast to an Ariel.

Last time I tried riding a Japanese bike I forgot to activate the clutch when trying to start it, then kept forgetting that the controls are back to front..................well at least at first!

Good to hear from you!

Sterring head lubrication

I think the time has come to grease my head bearings, but, I have serious doubts about the effectiveness of squirting grease in through the nipples. I imagine that some grease might find its way past the bearing cup on the lower bearing, but expecting it to go upwards against gravity and find its wa...

Factory Front Brake Cable Length

Hi, Can anyone help? I need to know what the length of the cable outer for the front brake on a post war rigid single with teles (1950) should be (as supplied by the factory). I have looked at pictures and it would appear that the cable doubles out across the other side of the forks (over and behind...
