Re: Oil pump pickup pipe additional washer

Sorted!! Thanks chaps that’s all really helpful. All back together. One other question though. I notice there is a round hole, almost half inch in diameter at 11 o’clock in the inner timing cover. I thought that the inner cover should be sealed tight? Is that a breather hole or should something go i...

NH Scavenge pipe question

Hi all. I think I may have found the source of my NH’s over oiling problem. I think that part of the cause is that In my ignorance I hadn’t fitted the little .005 oil feed washer over the oil feed pipe. I’ve also purchased a new gasket for the timing case. Question is.. Does the .005 washer go over ...

Re: Newly built engine breathing heavy

Yes mate. Well, Geoff did.. He discovered that at some point it had thrown a chain, distorting the casing slightly, preventing one of the selector forks from traveling fully.
He ground the edge of the fork slightly and it works perfectly now.

Newly built engine breathing heavy

Hi all. I’ve finally got a few miles on my newly built NH. Only about 13 miles in fact. I’ve got oil running all over the top of the head! Apparently seeping from the rocker cover gaskets. I did pour 1/2 pint of oil into the rocker covers before initial start up but on running put the excessive oil ...

Brake connecting rod or just swivel piece

I’m looking for the short rod between the rear brake pedal and bell crank or just the part that connects to the rear brake pedal on a swinging arm frame. They are on back order at Drags and it’s the only thing preventing me from riding the bike.
Many thanks Simon

Fork oil quantity

Hi all.
Is half a pint of oil correct for filling the forks on my 58 NH?
That puts the oil level 14 inches below the top of the stanchion with the forks extended.
Many thanks Simon

Re: Puzzled by GB gearbox problem

Thanks Pete. I haven’t replaced the bush. I notice that it protrudes, proud of its housing in the outer casing by a good 1/16th of an inch but it is seated all the way home. I don’t know if the outer cover I have was originally paired with my particular gearbox, if that matters. Out of interest.. Do...

Puzzled by GB gearbox problem

Hi all. I’ve built my NH more or less from scratch and I haven’t ridden it or reached the stage where I can start the engine yet. The gearbox I’m using came with the engine and all I’ve done is split the casings, clean it and replace the change shaft and the drive bearing. When I got the box it didn...
