Re: Rattle sound from r/h side of engine

Remember main jet only comes into play at wide open throttle so it's usually not a problem to go too big. Too small on the other hand can limit the flow through the needle valve at smaller throttle openings.

Re: Ebay

Yes, there are a lot of fakes. I've just reported a 30s side valve Norton starting at £1.22........

Re: Wiring Loom Routing

I always add separate earth wires on all my bikes as especially when bits have been painted /powder coated the standard earthing is suspect.

That description from Roger is superb.

Re: Ebay

I have to say as an occasional seller the ebay rates don't seem too bad - in fact last month listings were free and final value fees are only £1 regardless of value (for some categories anyway, but including motorcycle parts). I sold a BTH mag I'd got in a box of bits for over £400 and only paid £1....

Re: Rattle sound from r/h side of engine

It was Keith's pistons I fitted and I was very happy with the quality. They came complete with bushes for, as I remember £64 the pair.

Re: Charging resistance- help !!

TBH it's a very crude system anyway as the resistance is too high at low engine speeds and too low at high speeds......

Re: Charging resistance- help !!

I had one of these systems on the Sunbeam I restored a couple of years ago. I measured the (original) resistor as 8 ohms. A modern one with a heat sink should do the job OK although it won't keep the back of the light switch warm! It took me a while to get to grips with the 3 brush dynamo circuit la...

Re: Rattle sound from r/h side of engine

Hi Dennis. When I mentioned the tolerance I was talking about the clearance between the piston and bore. The Ariel workshop manual states this as 0.002" - .0035" when new: I had the rebore done to a clearance of .004" ie half a thou more than the maximum new clearance. As a rebore is ...

Re: Vintage Grease Gun / Grease Point Question

That's a very useful post Simon - I must admit to never having had much success with the small (Nubrex?) grease gun I have and have to confess to fitting later clip-on nipples in the past. I have read about the cotton rag dodge but it never worked for me - but probably I never filled the gun properl...
