I have never heard of ally pushrods without steel ends,so you learn something new every day.Sounds like a bodge to me.Regards John.

The timing case is prewar, the rest looks pretty good to me.The pressed steel speedo mount was fitted to 49 and 50 twins and fours.Said to be safer. In the late 60s early 70 s 20" tires were impossible to find, the answer was to fit another wheel for a 19" tire.I remember getting a wheel from...

Ive reversed magneto and generator direction for both my Nortons,as anything Norton is dearer. Norton reversed direction in 1935 and changed back in 1948.In a MO1 the only difference is the camplate, with the advance as you prefer it.Grind another notch in the plate in the correct spot, and rotation i...

I think you might find that the parts you are looking for are actually made from forged alloy steel and heat treated. The springs are easily made, not so the axle brackets.Regards John.

Comments about supermarket oil bring back memories. When I ran the engine reconditioning shop,I allways bought pallet loads of cheap recycled oil from Woolies in 4l bottles at $1.00 and tipped it into a Castrol GTX 200l drum to dispense,as the first fill was free.It wasnt fraud because I wasnt sellin...

There are many people making replica JAP twins and they all use investment cast parts. As the cams and followers fit in a similar way to an Ariel, you could punt a few bucks and try some out.Seriously though ,I dont see why someone cant get a couple of dozen sets of followers and cam blanks investment...

I might also point out that Burmans made all Norton gear boxes from 1935 to 1956.The other box you could consider is the Albion, fitted to several racers in the thirties, including the Excelsior, and Royal Enfield.Generally reckoned to be full of false neutrals, but a very strong box,and used without mu...

The box in the picture is a 1934 Sturmey Archer 4speed.If its from a Norton,it will have the split top mount, which is hidden behind the foot change.Expect to pay a pretty penny for one,but you can still buy new made close and wide ratio clusters for these boxes,as you could in the thirties.I dont th...

Turning ring grooves in pistons is not difficult,Ive done thousands. The old advice is dont turn both sides of the groove at once.I once did a lot of some 200 second hand Honda car pistons to get us out of a jam with import motors that we couldnt get rings for at a sensible price..Rings too deep for ...
