I thought so too,but I was at the metal merchants picking up some babbit,and they had lumps of cadmium,"suitable for plating".The plating is simple to do,and was sometimes done in a cement mixer,with the hot nuts or whatever shoveled in and tipped out when the coating was sufficient.Regard...

If the clutch slips much,it will heat and weaken the star spring,further slippage can also cook the magneto armature.This often happens with 12V conversions.Regards John.

Grabbing brakes can be caused by weak springs,increasing the strength( wire gauge) of the springs,or just new springs sometimes cures it.Another cure used on cars was to cut the lining at an angle across the leading edge of the shoe.Regards John.
