Straight gears are allways noisy,you have to go to helical gears for silence.Some truck gearboxes with straight gears actually make a screaming noise when the gears get slightly worn.Its caused by the sudden tooth contact as the gears mesh.Then theres also rattling at idle to put up with.Regards John.

The AMC production racers (7R and G45) both had close ratio clusters in that box.If anyone is interested I can look up the ratios.Regards John.

Tightening the genny clamp strap before the end bolt is a good way to break the end casting through the thin part around the drive gear.BSA mags often suffer base damage as well if the mounting strap is allowed to come loose.Regards John.

Velo singles have a suction operated spring loaded check ball valve in the oil tank outlet.Velo s don't suffer fools ,and if the oil system was properly bled and checked after reassembly,there were never any problems.Regards John.
