Re: So it begins

Looks like some kind of catastrophe has previously occurred.
Looks like a couple of the rods have had a little attention as well, never seen this before.

Re: So the resurrection begins

Ok, so sorry about the delay in posting any new photos etc. Stupid work getting in the way again. Anyway managed to get quite a bit done this Arvo. So, so, soooooo pleased that I invested the time to research the marque and find out as much as I could about the bike by joining forums such as this. F...

Re: So the resurrection begins

Another few hours spent in the workshop this Arvo. Accomplished quite a bit. Very happy with what I have done.
Primary chain and gears off. Primary cover removed along with the dynamo.

Re: So the resurrection begins

Apparently this is done to help drain the oil away from the rocker assembly. I can only presume to stop oil potentially flooding the tappet area and maybe burning it.
I am sure there are more knowledgeable members out there than I who know exactly why it's done.

Re: So it begins

Had to get a drill bit of the appropriate size and feed down the oil way by hand to get the muck out of these. I can only imagine what the crank sludge traps are going to be like.

Re: So the resurrection begins

Did a little more in the workshop this afternoon. Dismantled the timing chain side, removed all the sprockets, chain and tensioner. Also pulled the rocker shafts out and cleaned down the oil passages / rocker oil feed holes. With what come out from there vindicates my decision to pull the engine apa...

Sorry this is the last photo, it didn't download for some reason. Rotor is pointing towards number 1 pick up.

Re: So the Resurrection begins

Did a little more in the workshop today. Managed to get the head off, after a great deal of mucking around after removing the oil cooler that a previous owner bodged up when fitted. Very annoying. Bore looks to be ok, measures 65mm ( on digital caliper only, I don't have any internal micrometers). T...

Re: So it begins

Hey Simon,

I was really only needing a new needle valve as mine had seized( I have freed it off but would not trust it ) and gaskets etc for the rebuild. I have found another place that supplies Solex parts. They are called Classic Carbs here in Australia. Will check them out and see how I go.
