I remember something similar - I was under the impression that a friction screw in the twist grip was a standard feature (I think the twist grips on both my 'complete' Ariels have this). I've had at least one half-width hub that used to move slightly when the brake was applied hard - not sure any movement was as much as a couple of mm, maybe just the one. It's something slightly out of line - mine didn't rub and worked fine and as I couldn't spot anything obviously amiss I forgot ab...

Chaps - you can re-use solid copper gaskets by annealing them to make them soft again....

Guy: Thinking about the two different fork legs, I think some of the fork damping is controlled by the top bush masking a hole drilled in the leg towards the end of the travel, and the position of the hole was moved along with fitting the longer bush.
