Ralph There was a time when I'd have said 'chilled iron grit' blasting for cleaning up cast-iron. You might need to do a bit of googling to find out if there are better or more modern alternatives. Might also be useful to use someone used to that sort of work as it'll be best done with a bit of care...

Another cause might be undoing the bolts while the rocker is still holding a valve open - especially if the bolts are undone one at a time so at the end of the process there's only one bolt, and one lug, involved...

Steve McFarlane was one of the founders of SRM - I think he's now got his own engineering concern in Cardiff (he comes up in 'yell.com'), looks like he still does a lot of bike stuff.

I doubt if he'd be cheaper (I think you do get what you pay for) but he may be slightly closer.

I've seen several references to stocks of parts being used up first rather than all new being introduced in one clean sweep. I don't think this was limited to just Ariel, and my 1980 BM has got some parts on it that were supposed to have been discontinued in the 1979 model year. I didn't realise the...

I've got 51 and 53 VH heads with a smooth inlet port (ie 'machined') but a pretty rough exhaust.
The bowl in each head is also machined but again not polished, in so far as you can see the machining marks, but you can't really feel any roughness.

Dunno if that helps any!

I'd agree with Nev about K70s, but I'd just comment that if you like the feel of the Roadriders then use 'em and don't worry about not being able to push the tyre to its limits!
