Re: Ariel Huntmaster chain drags on S/A

Hi Terry - welcome to the forum. Your rear shocks look too long - on the centre stand (with the back wheel off the ground) my s/arm is almost horizontal (the top edge of the back end of the pillion/exhaust mounting is about mid-way on the swing-arm). Your front brake's all wrong as well, it won't wo...

Re: Dummy Cyclone 4sale

According to the cyclones doc (in the AOMCC web-site docs area) the only definitive mark of a 'Cyclone' is a spec for chrome (or HS) mudguards with the machine entry in the dispatch books. If that DVLA record is correct it's odd that it's described as a Huntmaster and not a ('super rare') Cyclone. '...

Re: clutch and mainshaft

Mick Allen bolts, mid-1980s. They were working quite well as 'studs' - no bending or 'chewing'. I concluded that there might be more to material specs than just 'tensile' strength and went back to the originals with that painful tab-washer to lock them. A friend made some spindles for some old Druid...

Easy enough to replace the dualseat with a single saddle (the frames have all the lugs)....

Re: clutch and mainshaft

The ones I've seen from unmolested bikes have all been set screws. As well as slots they might have a smaller hex size than a 'standard' bolt. The slots have always tended to be a bit 'chewed'. I once replaced a set with allen bolts (that are fairly high-tensile) - all carefully drilled, done up rea...

Re: NH chain alignment

Pete - has it got the right gearbox? (I think there's a gearbox letter/number reference doc on Drags site)

Re: valve springs too strong?

The exhaust lifter can be very stiff if there's any notching in the lug it bears on in the end of the rocker lever. I don't recall the valve springs being strong enough to make the engine difficult to turn over on the kick-start, although mine are strong enough to move the crank round to beyond wher...

Re: Is This A Stainless Rim?

Methinks they're extremely unlikely to use more than one type of stainless steel 'cos they'll stick with the spec they've got for the application (ie wheel rims) and not mess about experimenting with more than one grade of material. (Surely would make it more expensive as well?)

Re: VH-crank - oil supply

Hi Hermann I'm no expert on the earlier bikes but there don't seem to have been different quills for VH/VG, just a change after 1940 for all models (as per Paul's notes). There are several other threads about quills in the forum. None of them directly addresses your problem but there is some discuss...

Re: 1938 SQUARE FOUR THROTTLE CABLE PROBLEM

Ralph: Drags have the right sort of thing but no stock of the smaller ones - see throttle stop ferrule and related ferrule on this link (hopefully) https://www.draganfly.co.uk/triumph-shop/twin-cylinder/product/2701-throttle-stop-ferrule Feked might have some, I don't know anything about Sq.4 carbs ...
