That explains things, the indicator should be a pressed steel cup - an easy fix to replace :D

Re: TWO PROBLEMS

Sorry Johnny

I can't help - all the seals I've seen were basically tubular, no change in diameter along their length.

The AMC owners Club are showing stock of this type if you are a member or maybe give AMC Classic Spares a call.

Re: FH oil pick up pipe blocked

Hi

There was no spring in mine when I refurbished it - my understanding is it functions under gravity.

Re: GEARBOX SPROCKET

Hi Johnny

I see I made a typo in my response, but your suggestion of 100 Lbs force inches equates to 8.33 Lbs force Ft.

I torqued my sprocket nut to 60 Lbs force Ft with no ill effect - this is how I locked the sproket:

Re: TWO PROBLEMS

Hi

Those spring dimensions sound about right - I can't get to my GB6 at the moment to measure up.

Re: GEARBOX SPROCKET

Hi

100 Lb force in will be far too low in my opinion.

In the absence of published Ariel figures I used comparable Triumph ones and torqued the gearbox sprocket nut to 60 Lb force Ft

Re: gear change indicator

Hi Johnny When I restored my GB44 I bought the parts from Draganfly - the seal fitted fine and looked identical to the one I removed. An O ring or two will do at a push and can easily be replaced once you get a correct seal, just remove the indicator and pick out the the O ring(s) with a pin. Regard...

Re: TWO PROBLEMS

Hi Johnny Rather than operate the kick start try spinning the main shaft as you select gears - don't apply too much pressure to the gear change, it sounds as if things may just be a little stiff/dry. An over length oil seal would give the problem you are having with the spring - not the best photo b...

Re: TWO PROBLEMS

Hi You are spinning the main shaft as you try to select the gears are'n't you ;) Can't really think what can go wrong if it all slipped back together - did you oil the selector drum indexing plunger assembly? The indicator oil seal on my gearboxes sit flush with the case when installed, the spring i...
