Re: Snapped timing chain

I got mine from John Budgen - it was endless - no joining link. Two timing chains came with my project, both looked fine but had way too much sag at the extreme of adjustment. I took a punt on a new one from John and it's fine. I still can't imagine how timing chains can get so stretched (unless the...

Re: steering damper knob

I actually did check the parts books as I am reviving a 1938 VH and the steering damper knob part number is 4091-38 which indicates it was first used in 1938. I did check a 1952 parts book and it was still the same so that must be the knob that has the large ARIEL across the centre. The knob in the ...

Re: Autojumbler who sells Chrono clocks

Do you mean David Woods? He's always at Shepton Mallet and Kempton. Very good and reasonably priced for repairs. I believe he prefers exchanges to outright sales but he always has a good selection of restored clocks on his stall. Web site is http://www.chronometricspeedos.co.uk

Re: left hand combination lever wanted

Hi Paul, the parts from the VOC diagram that I dont have are: eccentric lever pivot plate; locking plate; and slotted bronze nut. I do have one spring washer and can probably harvest washers from another lever along with a cover plate. All the big shiny bits are there hence my reluctance to get a co...

Re: left hand combination lever wanted

Hi Alan - thanks for the links - I'll have a crack at the second one for sure! The first one is a bit too far from what I want and too dear for what it is. What I have is fine apart from I can either have both levers tight or both levers free but not a free EXH and a tight MAG. Having both loose and...

Re: left hand combination lever wanted

Hi Paul, thanks for the link - they look lovely and just what I need but a matched pair of levers will be north of £300! I may end up going to them but I'm still hopeful of obtaining the washers and nuts etc. to make the ones I have more functional. They do sort of work if I set them loose and use a...

left hand combination lever wanted

The left hand clutch/mag/exh lever on my 1938 VH is mostly wrong in that none of the parts apart from the levers themselves are correct. I have bodged it to be just about usable but would like to do a proper job. Any of the nuts, washers, springs spacers etc. would be welcome to sort the one I have ...

Re: combined clutch a/r and valve lifter control lever 1938 VH

Thanks Vincent, it looks lovely if rather pricey. It doesn't look like they sell the components separately so I'll try a want ad here.
If that doesn't work I'll start saving!

Re: combined clutch a/r and valve lifter control lever 1938 VH

Thanks Alan, this is exactly what I need - I would never have found it on the VOC site. Off out to the garage now to sort out what parts I need but at first glance what I have is a long way from correct. I feel a parts wanted ad coming on. Good to know it should be an Amal - that's £80 I haven't was...

combined clutch a/r and valve lifter control lever 1938 VH

The combined control lever (left hand bar) on my 1938 Red Hunter is clearly made up of random parts even though the small levers do have EXH and MAG engraved on them. The problem is that if I adjust the top screw so that the valve lifter returns under spring power the advance lever won't stay advanc...
