WANTED GEARBOX SHELL VAF G15.

My 350 NH project desperately needs a correct main gearbox shell, which I believe should be marked with cast in ID of VAF G15. Mine is pictured and the main shell appears to be an incorrect fitment and is VAF G12 (AJS / Matchless?). Might consider a complete gearbox if reasonably priced. Thank you.

Re: Mini Lathe

Hi Simon, I spent more time working out how rather than doing. The top machining/filing/drilling and junior hacksawing clip slot, was done first while still a solid bar and not turned to size, so some good clamping power was available. I then turned to size very close and cut roughly to length. At t...

Re: Mini Lathe

Hi Paul, regarding cutting slots in screws, I have to confess my workshop is not very sophisticated. I have a drill press (el cheapo!),my Myford with an adjustable vertical slide for basic milling operations and a good selection of hand tools etc. To cut slots in screws I use a hand held small angle...

Re: Mini Lathe

Hi Gary, Sorry for delay, but been away for a few days. John answered your post well and all I would add to reinforce on his words, is that I save all old or worn out bolts, studs, spindles and other parts, as a possible source for material. In addition I have a pal who runs an engineering business,...

Re: Mini Lathe

Having a lathe of my own was the best extension to my bike restoration/fettling pastime and started with a standard ML7 Myford, eventually moving to a Myford Super 7 (much stronger headstock bearing) with gearbox. I taught myself screw-cutting which totally transformed the pleasure and scope of work...

Re: Dave Thomas`HT - Page 14 May Cheval

Since May I have had chance to sort the parts that I think the previous owner had in mind for this project and I have got together, quite a decent "kit of parts" and also found what I believe is the frame manufacturers number on the headstock front. It is simply a four digit number which r...

Re: Fuel tank connecting pipe

Just go to a plumbers merchant and buy a pair of brass 3/8 BSP blanking nuts. Put a fibre disc in the bottom to seal. Plumbers merchants have those too.

Re: Dave Thomas`HT - Page 14 May Cheval

Nice bike Dave. I have been pondering what this frame was since I got it and now seeing the picture of your bike, it all seems to make sense. Other items in the collection, now can be linked to this frame and it is clearer to me what was originally envisaged. Thanks.

Dave Thomas`HT - Page 14 May Cheval

Please pardon my ignorance, but could anybody tell me if the frame of the HT motorcycle pictured is of Ariel manufacture, or is it of some special make, made to accommodate Ariel engine and gearbox components. The reason for asking is that some time ago I purchased a collection of Ariel parts from a...

Re: SQUARE 4 CRANKCASE REPAIR

I am the last person to destroy a pair of Square 4 cases (albeit damaged), without good need and it was one of the reasons for starting this post ie. to find a good way forward. Whatever I do, will not happen soon. I have my doubts about achieving a good repair to the 46 cases, so will probably expl...
