Re: SQUARE 4 CRANKCASE REPAIR

Thanks Paul, great news, I now know what direction to take my efforts in. Lets see if I can make a good repair of those cases then. Cheers, Malcolm.

Re: SQUARE 4 CRANKCASE REPAIR

Hi John, You are probably correct on that, as I just lumped the two DK`s as 1947. The other cases I have are DE 461. The 2nd cases I am sure are 1947 with the number DK734 and are the ones I am hoping to use, as they are going into going into frame XP 1576 and I have a gut feeling that they may have...

Re: SQUARE 4 CRANKCASE REPAIR

Thanks for your thoughts John, Yes it looks like that type of "magic stuff". It would be a case of grinding out a "vee" for the weld hoping to clean up the alloy and see how the welding goes. My real worry was the bearing outer moving in the case or the crack opening again, when ...

SQUARE 4 CRANKCASE REPAIR

DK 167.JPG I have these two crankcases for my new square 4 project. The first has a crack extending from the case mouth by the engine number, right down and through to the front main bearing boss. An attempt has been made in the past to repair. It could and should have been done better, but I would...

Re: Brightspark easycap.

Thanks for all your replies so far. The britbike info is interesting reading and I have found the recommended supplier Digi- Key in Uk and they stock the recommended capacitors detailed from the tests. Also Paul, thanks for your input, but I do not know Tony Coopers contact details. What kind of sol...

Brightspark easycap.

I must make the effort this year to get my 1947 4g much more reliable. It has had little use due to a bad misfire after about 10 miles into a run when the engine gets hot. I have tried many things, but I am sure it is the capacitor that is failing, although the magneto had a full rebuild many years ...

4G Carbuettor heat shield.

The "Next job continues". The fuel tank has had a further real clean with MEK (used carefully), Hydrochloric acid (dilute) and finally treat with phosphoric acid. The inside is mint, no leaks and does not need a liner, certainly not for the time being. I have got round the main jet holder ...

Re: The next job

That IS a good idea Paul re using a much thicker spacer to get "over the hill" so to speak, I will pursue that. The whole magdyno unit came to me in fully restored, both mechanically and cosmetically, with an invoice from Stuart Towner. Initially I did not have any misfiring issues, but as...

The next job

Having got the side stand done, I need to address the poor running after about 10 miles or so and here I would appreciate help from those with iron 4G`s. My bike came as a kit of most parts, abandoned in the early 1990`s and some work had been done , the fuel tank being one of them. The bottoms had ...

My rigid 4G - Starting the finishing.

After falling out with my 4G project some 18 months ago, I have been inspired to continue the challenge. Apart from what are common issues, the main hate that I had, was getting off this very hot machine and manoeuvring myself to the rear position to pull this heavy machine (for me) up onto the rear...
