Re: 1954 Square in Florida, USA

It looks like quite a good restoration project to me - but somewhat expensive for a restoration project.

Re: 1937 Red Hunter for Sale

What about the 350 oil tank, the 80mph PA, the acknowledgement of a later VH engine, etc. The price may be right but it is not a 1937 RH500.

Email Draganfly and ask. They know more about Ariels than the rest of us put together.

Re: VH Clutch adjustment?

I can confirm that your sliding member is life expired. Some would use another word to describe it, possibly preceded by the word "completely". Pete Kemp should be able to supply but don't expect an immediate response as I know he is in Spain at present. Buy a new sprocket while you are at...

Re: New member with barn find Leader

Jerry, One option you have is to make a formal complaint to DVLA. It may well get you nowhere, but DVLA are surprisingly sensitive to formal complaints. So if a formal complaint gets you nowhere, take the issue up with your local MP. DVLA are guaranteed to be even more sensitive to complaints from M...

Re: 1937 Red Hunter for Sale

Another "where do we start listing the faults" job.

XG is a 1938 or later frame.
The primary chaincase is 1939 on.
The rear lamp is 1939.
Tank panels were painted, not chromed, in 1937.
Etc,
etc.

But there is the makings of a nice bike there.

Re: nh 350 gearbox removal

I think the answer is "No", but it isn't easy and you can do all the repairs necessary with the gearbox shell still in the bike anyway.

Re: Remould tyres

I have just removed one of these from my recently acquired prewar QD rear wheel. The tyre was worn well beyond anything seen today so someone had his money's worth from it. I took it to the local tip.

Re: New member with barn find Leader

It seems that I gave up the role of Machine Registrar and Archivist at just the right time. DVLA seem to have popped the goalposts onto well lubricated castors since I gave up in April. Mind you, I had long wondered why they accepted a tax disc as evidence since there is no link to the frame number ...

Re: Sq4 Mk1 Timing chain tensioner

The arched steel adjuster is from a later MKII engine. Yours should just have the spring steel tensioner and yes, they do flatten out and extend a long way. Bottom right in your photo is the oil pressure regulator from the end of the crankshaft. The oil pipe goes from the breather hole in the back o...
