Re: Wanted - Cam Follower

You could talk to Pete Kemp at Singles Spares. I would be amazed if he couldn't supply a selection of new, used and scrap ones !

Re: Mk. 1 Square 4 Valves.

Ian,

There is something to be said for replacing the exhaust valves with new ones designed for use with unleaded petrol. The ends of new valves are hardened anyway so you don't need the valve stem end caps.

Re: Search for the Pink family

Most bikes were built to individual order and it was pretty rare for a dealer to buy one and keep it on display in the showroom for several months. The best clue as to whether this was a bike to special order or one for dealer stock is the specification for the bike. Stock bikes were likely to be to...

Re: SQ4 Pressure Regulator

Simon, I think you will find an article on my KH in the next edition of Cheval de Fer which includes a description of how I calibrated the equivalent (very similar if not actually identical) valve on that engine. I can't take credit for the idea though, that came from Pete Kemp of singles spares fame.

Re: Search for the Pink family

Adrie,

E.T.Pink was an Ariel dealer at 221-225 Station Road, Harrow, Middlesex by 1956. In 1951 they are at 22 Station Road but I don't have earlier references to them.

Re: 1933 Ariel MA3 Tank Colour

Hello Guy. I have to tell you that Ralph Hawkins never did put the article together on the MA3s, to the best of my knowledge. As you may know, the MA3 does not appear in any literature we know of in the UK, being the special model for Stokvis and Zonen. By the sound of things, the 1933 Dutch catalog...

Re: Vh on unleaded

The VH will run happily on unleaded but I use the Castrol lead substitute and octane booster just to be careful. As Adrie says, keep away from fuels with 10% ethanol content as these can damage your fuel lines, carb, etc as indicated in a recent test by the Vincent Club.

Re: Brake pedal required

Chris, You have a set of footrests from a Square Four. If you take the curly one fitted to the straight extension piece you have the right item for the right side of your bike. Find another straight extension piece and use that with the footrest currently attached to the offset extension piece to ma...

Re: 1st brit single i've owned

Somehow, I get the impression that Dad might get the job of producing the alloy bits since I have a lathe and Rob doesn't. For those of you with mysterious oil leaks between head and barrel on the alloy head singles in particular, try putting a small smear of silicone between the washer and cylinder...
